I'm thinking "duallys" but put the second set of wheels inboard instead of outboard!
-
It's the temperature in Ian's shed,it softened the metal, did he have his wood burner on to keep the kettle hot?

More years ago than I care to remember we used to use Alum powder mixed with water and poured into a plasticene 'well' surrounding the hole with the broken steel stud/tap in.
The 'mixture' used to eat/rust away the steel item, the remains of which could then be picked out. NOTE!! This should only be used to remove steel from aluminium castings etc or brass ones. This is ok if you are not in too great a hurry!

I thought the 'butterfly nuts' were the same as the'spinners' ie. knock on/off wheel retainers we had on old sports cars with wire wheels etc,or even F1 cars for quick wheel changes when you get a puncture in the middle of cutting the lawn. :D

Some pics of 'metal sculptures' made from worn/broken parts from some of the machines we build.
These were made for 'retiring' colleagues in the group I work for. All the parts have a 'history'

Brott ride on flail mower: just seen a youtube clip, it shows the gearbox with clutch lever on the 'gearstick', it's the same colour paint also.

Hi Ian,
My mate Farmer Boyce's combine has lots of chain tensioners which are made from nylon & don't rotate.
the chain side cheeks cut grooves in the nylon, which guide the chain and the chain rollers then run on the tensioner.
I suppose a piece of oak fencepost, etc would do at a pinch. As the tensioner doesn't rotate it wouldn't matter if it touched the casing, drill the bolt hole eccentricaly for adjustment, and put as many as you like on to support the chain,in fact they don't even have to be round!!!
-
I was going to use it for a Bonser style truck for the stables, but then I gave the axle away. After seeing the Villiers powered motorcycle: It looks to old to call it a motorbike, I wonder ????????
-
Just put a bigger bucket on the JCB,Ian
-

Good idea :hide: Look at all the tax revenue the treasury is losing by all the uninsured car driivers about. How can we possibly pay MP's saleries & expenses without something like this

I don't know about 'handbrake', I think you'll be using both hands and another part of your anatomy to hold on!
-
Lister D, Leave the bonnet off and say it's 'unstyled'
-
Your relying on two mugs, sorry, passengers, being available at the same time to keep it balanced!
If the driver/pilot/? sits on one of the outside seats he would be able to see to steer when in wheely mode,it would need those steering brakes though, and blindfolds for the passengers!
So you could be back to zero steer with casters on the seat backs.
-
I may have a couple of spare 12" wheels like the ones with the ag tyres on, you could widen them or swap the centres over.
or you may be able to bore a pair of wheelhorse hubs to suit the reliant shaft.

'WOW' makes my MS440 look like a toy! When that thing's in action this is where I would be!

Hi Ian, got PM, sorting it out,
Renewing bearings on the BCS flail, pics of the drive pulleys, no keys, the bore of the pulley & the outside of the centre piece have matching tapers, the screws pull the two together very tightly. I assume no keys to allow shock absorption by slipping . I wonder if something like this may help prevent the taperlock breakages you are suffering ? With a lathe I would think they would not be too difficult to makeif an immovable object is encountered
