I like the look of the solidity of those earlier Bolens mower. I have not seen one of these over here but have seen several of the later Bolens/MTD ones on Ebay.
Well I collected the Bolens late this afternoon after enduring a gruelling day drive through horrendous weather from Devon to Kent. Absolutely shattered and I have to say I am well pleased with the work on it too. I also collected the Huffy Broadlawn which I bought a while back.
I have been tempted to buy a mulching mower myself and have yet to see a Bolens one in the flesh as it were. I nearly bought a Bolens sickle mower a while ago but decided not to go for it in the end. They do look to be well made. I guess it's a Briggs & Stratton engine?
That's a bit of a bugger Nigel. I have never heard the phrase top hats before in relation to engineering/ mechanical parlance.
Still, the Bolens look awesome.
I believe there was an opportunity in the 1950s in the UK to drive on right instead of the left. Sweden 'stopped' all traffic for a few days in the 1950s while the road signs were swapped around and road markings revamped. Car headlights were swapped over as well.
Unfortunately it's too late now to change this in the UK. it would make life easier for us Brit's who drive over to Europe and the cost of buying new vehicles would be cheaper as everything would be standardised.
Look to be a very interesting museum and a very interesting way to display the cars.
Very similar to the VW museum display in Wolfburg except for the poor visibility due to the excess smoke.......
Chris,
Did you managed to get any photos or videos of the plucker? I remember seeing it back in July at John's when you unearthed it in the caravan when I collected the weights and tiller.
Cheers
Edit Just seen the photos in the other post. Look great.
Another great find Chris. What else will you discover.......
Those gloves must be impregnated with WH Red by the look of them; whatever you touch will be red like that poor red Bolens at John's!
You can keep away from my gold Bolens for sure!
