  1. When I got my 1254, I too discovered it was missing a battery tray, air filter top, knackered wiring loom and had no exhaust. This seem to be a common theme with Bolens as many are missing these items. The seat didn't have the seat bracket and the I had the wrong fuel tank . Fortunately all sourced except the wiring. I can recommend Rick aka blackjackjakexxix from GTTallk who is very happy to ship parts over to the UK and his parts are very reasonably priced.
  2. Chris, glad you got this one and the accessories; saved me buying it! Looking forward to seeing updates on this one in between working on the Cub Cadet and changing nappies.
  3. ....and he like to wear high heel shoes.....
  4. George, When I collect it next week, I will take better photos. Cheers Andrew
  5. Love that patina on the Cub Cadet. I will follow this project closely. After Bolens, the Cub Cadet is a very close favourite followed by the Gutbrods. Anyway I know Chris, aka the Showma, will let me have his CC one day........
  6. I be interested to see how my plough performs. If it all goes to bits, I can blame the plough and not me! Where the best place to buy parts for ploughs?
  7. You did well to get one if it's that rare in the States. If one come up here in the UK it will probably be mega expensive for those in the know. Look forward to seeing it installed and seeing it working.
  8. Nigel, What a creation! Superb! Love the Bronze Green paintwork' a nice touch to the Landy theme.
  9. OB, A great find and as Chris said rare as hen's teeth in the UK. Well done!
  10. George, Really good info and photos. I look forward to seeing more details. Cheers
  11. Just an update, after some haggling the plough is now mine. I got it for a reasonable price and both seller and I are happy with the deal. I will be collecting it in a few weeks. I will take some detailed photos of it. I will be interested to know how to set the plough up properly and how to maintain it as well.
  12. I do like the round hood Bolens firstmost followed closely by the Ride a Matics models. Actually to be honest I like all the Bolens tractors! I have forgotten that the 600 is the smaller one and having it own set of implements. I would like to get a RAM tractor first if I could but need to sort out the storage plus putting some cash aside. As for Gentlemen's Agreement, awfully nice of you to let me have first dibs ..........
  13. I got to order some belts for the Bolens so I will add a couple oil seals with the order. I saw some photos of some 'rat look' Bolens with tillers working the soil and I like the look of them. I want to keep the patina of the tiller and the oil will preserve the metal work as well as accentuating the remaining paintwork. I will apply this technique to the 1254. The 800 will be my Show Queen as it were but another 600/800/1000 shaped Bolens will look cool in its original state.
  14. Last weekend I collected my Rotovator/ Tiller for my Bolens. I pressure washed the grime off it that afternoon and the following day spent a couple of hours brushing off the rust as well as degreasing it. I read George's (aka The Fife Plooman) recommendation of Owatrol and decided to try it out myself. I had a few hours spare this afternoon and it was relatively warm and sunny so I decided to give the tiller its first coat. I am happy with the results so far. I plan to do another coat over the weekend, weather and temperatures permitting. I also drained the gearbox but nowt came out! Topped it up with non synthetic gearbox oil. Here it is when I collected it. After being pressure washed. Sanded down and degreased. Surface prepared for application of Owatrol. Last two photos show first coat of Owatrol.
  15. Iain, sorry it slipped my mind but I thought I mentioned it that I am hoping to get one soon. Just sorting out the shipping.......
  16. Blimey, I thought my garage was full yo the rafters! Still I can always make room for that CC...........
  17. I was thinking of getting a Barford plough recently but wanted to get a Brinly plow if possible.
  18. I have made an offer and awaiting his response. Here's another photo of the plough which I thought I have uploaded at the beginning of this thread. I guess I was too excited.....
  19. Iain, Thanks for the sleave hitch plans/ measurements. I agree that the mowing deck is for an earlier Bolens; it's all solid and the blades goes round happily. I am in the process of cleaning it up along with the tiller. I will be applying several coats of Owatrol on them. My son dismantled the plastic seat which make the LK a lot better to look. My plans are to give it a light rejuvenation of fresh paint, replace the engine with an appropriate age related one and to find a seat which will be recovered in red which my mother in law have kindly offered to do. Cheers
  20. Iain, Don't worry I will give your missus a fair price for all your Bolens....
  21. I have to say I am tempted. Garde tractor plougha are hard to come by in my experience. I know a few of you lads got ploughs ; is this one basically sound? What sort of money do they go for? Cheers I have just seen George's response. Thanks.
  22. I have been offered this plough; it's 42" long. He used it on his Gutbrod 1050 but it was originally on a Bolens. I have been told it is a Brinly Plow; possibly an 8" or a 10". What your view on its condition and usability? I know it's difficult to get Brinly Plows here but I thought I could salvage it and replace the shear and point. Your feedback would be helpful. Thanks.
  23. There's a lot thinking and planning behind these projects. I am, yet again, amazed at the pace you're setting yourself Ian. More good work and I await further progress with interest. Cheers.
  24. Look forward to seeing more photos of this machine. Looks a beast.
