For those wondering what to use and on some models - how to cut the holes out.

it's called grip tape and is used on skateboards - so easy to come by on that auction site.

Cut to shape with old scissors or a stanley knife.

if you need to cut holes, then mark them from the underside in pencil. I just traced round them on a flat surface after marking 1.5" in from the edge.

I then made punch from a piece of chrome pipe - turning the edge sharp on the lathe, and then with a hammer on a piece of rubber mat they were cut through.

and voila... Bendy has grippy footplates

Alan, I only spoke German and some French when we came to the States and when I learned to speak English it was without an accent. I moved to Indian Territory after getting out of the army to find people with little command of the English language in the form of syntax or grammar. I have however learn to master the dialect to a tee and can converse with the locals like I was "bornd hear"..
Come on over everyone else has, it would be nice to get some illegal immigrants that could speak the language   I think we could pass you off as Canadians   man I'm killing it here today.

Yes, funny lot these Americans. My number 2 son married an American about 18 years ago ( ex pen pal ) and now lives in Chickamauga, Georgia. After quite a few visits
I have almost managed to understand the strange words, and even stranger habits, especially those of my sons daddy in law. He is as crazy as a coot.    Luckily we are both tarred with the same brush so get along well, even though he doesn't talk properly.

Alan, you have to squint real hard and have a poor power source that makes the screen flicker, then they move. That's what i have here. The largest power generating station in four states lies not 2 k from my front door and I have to by power from an electric cooperative, that buys power from someone that buys power from someone else and then in the end gets it me. If I follow my electric line I bet they go straight to the power plant and were all being given the shaft.

If you have that many projects on the go, how can you find the time to watch your veggy's grow.
Nice house and Yard. Plenty of room to play. A bit bigger than my postage stamp size garden.
Just been staring at your veggy plot photo again, but can't see anything moving. Or is it me.?

The stash is located in Surrey. The front loader is buried out of sight at the back of a PACKED barn, so will be a quite a while before it see's the light of day.

The dig site is from Clovis aged native people, pre-dating most tribes. It is a rock shelter that was used as a temporary hunting camp.We have retrieved thousands of artifacts and have barely scratched the surface, it looks like this particular site was in use for thousands of years. No matter how busy a person is he should always take time to watch something grow or just time to ponder. I think of those native people so many thousands of years ago, and the effort it took to feed, clothe, and shelter themselves and their family and yet they still gazed toward the stars and pondered from where they might have come.

Well, it's been a few days since the last post on the Bolens stash so I expect everyone has calmed down by now. Just before you nod off again, a little bit more news.
I had a dig around at the Bolens, and other stuff graveyard, and took various photo's and details. As most of the tractors are well buried and boxed in decent photo's
proved difficult to obtain. Need to clear a lot of clutter to move each tractor to a more suitable position.
This will obviously take time. But fear not, the stash will live again. I hope to have a few in the "For Sale" ads very soon.

A little bit more progress has been made...   Brake pedal moved inwards a bit and what will be the throttle in place..

Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one..
As you know I am using two bike master cylinders for WN's brakes, one front brakes, one rear, but I also need a way to set the balance on them, or more braking at the back than the front as it's otherwise known..
I did look at brake bias valves but other than Chinese cheap rubbish they were all rather expensive!
I could of built a linkage using cams to apply different pressure to each master cylinder until a thought hit me..

As you will of seen by the photo in my last post I had been thinking of having the MC's next to each other... But what would happen if one was above the other?

    Taaa Daa

The higher you go up the lever the more it goes forward, so the top MC (rear brakes) gets more pressure and sooner than the bottom (front brakes) MC
All I need to do is weld the MC frame to the chassis, change the lever bit for something a bit stronger and connect it via a rod to the brake pedal..
A little fine tuning will be needed I expect, but I'm rather hopeful this system will work

On a very serious note, I look forward to hearing more about this Bolens with the FEL (Philip) and the sale of the Bolens collection plus implements (Alan). I can assure you both that whoever buy anything collectable within the forum, they will go to very good homes with appreciative owners.

HELP. !  After reading all the above posts I am a bit nervous that I might be flattened in the stampede at my about to be revealed news.  Rapidly building armoured shelter right now.  I know of approx 10 various Bolens which are about to be sold.  These belong to a friend who is downsizing his property due to ill health etc.  I believe I need to get the moderators permission first before saying too much as the owner is not on the forum or internet.

Just as a starter there a two Ride a matics, the cast gold versions, various Husky's, a large frame Hydro which if I remember, is an 1177,  plus, wait until I take cover, a Husky I think, with a front Hydraulic Loader.  Also to be disposed of are approx 13 other garden tractors plus loads of other stuff.  As said above, I think I need the go ahead from the mods before going too far, if I haven't done so already.

    If so, mods please delete.

Time for the rest of the update..

The hood stand has had a couple of bit's of box welded to it.

Which along with a couple of hefty mounting brackets has put a lot of strength into it, no longer does it wobble when the steering is turned.

The n/s foot plate has been fully welded and ground down.. I did for a while yesterday think about having foot gear change and a suicide clutch, but decided I'd rather have both hands on the wheel when the clutch is dropped at 9000rpm

This is the mount for the suicide shift made for a bit of thick steel and a cut down bike swing arm bolt..

Shifter mounted and the linkage worked out, though you will have to wait until the linkage is done before you see it.

The fender pan has been bolted down, but I thought a photo of 6 bolts would be boring so I didn't take a photo..

And to finish off this update, I needed to work out where the pedals would go so I climbed aboard, at which point Nigel wandered (not waddled ) in and grabbed my camera

It's looking like our entries for our favourite show in august have not been accepted, so I might well be joining you.... I'll start saving up now! Thanks Ian Thanks!I work in London all week, and get a few days at home to play... But all that time driving and in hotel rooms gives me plenty of time to dream the ideas up.
It's actually 5 years since I thought about it, and two years since I started

It is not just you Americans.

My wife would like to have a greenhouse and I told her that we need to make sure we get one big enough so the plough does not go through the glass when turning around inside it. She also asked me about some raised beds but I pointed out the safety issues of having further to fall from the tractor and needing space for ramps to drive up onto the beds.
