I would try to find something bigger, and a tandem, even if I had to make it. something like the Brinly I have on the Ariens or the Cub Cadet tandem disc , or a cut down section of farm disc. The extra width and second row will really mulch things up.

    Hi All,
just thought I would introduce my Gutbrod 1032. i have restored it completely then modified it to suit my purposes. I move my 22ft caravan with it. It looks a bit odd but dose the job. I was having trouble at low revs having to slip the clutch so I fitted a 16hp honda copy engine. It has hydraulic rear linkage, 55amp alternator and I have just managed to fit Barford Atom 15  wheel weights . giving me 32kg each side plus water balasted rear wheels. It will now plough solid clay without having to use diff lock. I hope this dosn,t offend the purests with all the mods but it dose the jobs i require of it   Just need a Rotovator now !

A few photos if the tear down.

Its surprising how quickly these Wheelhorses come apart.

Someone must have had a problem with the belt slipping at one point and made up a couple of crude brackets. The rear most one was actually wearing away the back of the belt.

That Kohler engine is one heavy son of a bitch. They are certainly made to last.

The Wheelhorse has been painted at some point in its life and after the engine was removed i found a patch of the original paint, which was quite pink to my surprise. Most of the information i have found about paint colours say to use International Harvester 2150. The closest i can find, going by what was under the engine is Ral 3001 signal red.

Now the work hard really begins, cleaning, sanding and painting.

Whilst idly browsing through Gumtree UK, I came across this H16 titled Garden Tractor. It's an hour away from me in Cornwall, just across the border. After a phone call I did quick trip to Cornwall to view the GT. The seller, an elderly but sprightly gentleman, recovering from a triple heart transplant, owned it for 25 years. He was the second owner. The previous owner traded it in for a newer machine in Exeter, Devon. He used it to mow his paddock which was grazed by donkeys. A deal was struck. His wife made me a cup of tea and made a lovely cheese sandwich with pickle. A lovely couple who lived there coming on 50 years. I asked him to write up some amusing antidotes about using the H16. It developed a starting fault some 10 years ago. He then bought a Toro which he said "isn't a patch on the old Bolens". He showed me a few other horticultural equipment that he given me first refusal. I also got the original receipt for the H16 when he bought it. He was pleased and thrilled that I am a Bolens enthusiast and that it would be looked after. I told him that I got 7 Bolens all together. That's when he invited me to have a cup of tea! I then told him that I knew several UK Bolens owners who got this particular model and that it was highly rated. That was when the sandwich was made! He told me that he was considering repowering it with a Honda engine but he couldn't bear the thought of 'ripping out the heart of the old girl'.
Can anyone tell me a but more about this H16 which is a 1656-01 # 0183284? (difficult to read the numbers). I believe it's a '73 model? It's all there and the surface is just surface rust but all original.the rear wheels are off his Toro whilst his Toro got the Bolens wheels as they are shored with Agri tyres. They will be swapped over when it's collected.

Well it arrived at lunch time today. Luckily I was working locally so when I got his text I rushed back to my house. We unloaded the 1050 together and I could not believe it that when I turned the key, it fired up straight away. I let it ran for about a minute. It was smokey from the exhaust but I think a good service will cure that or if not, some new rings. A good grease up and clean I think will make it look even better. I need a new tyre or inner tube for the front. One of the headlights worked and I was once again struck how solid the Bolens is. The courier, a mate of the seller, was absolutely taken with the Bolens. As far as I could tell, all the levers worked but I will need a need a throttle cable at some point. i think it's very a working tractor that have been maintained to a point,

I spotted this little gem on Gumtree it few weeks back. It looks complete but it has not been ran for some two years. I spoke to the seller and a deal was struck. He was well chuffed that it was going to a collector and that sealed the deal. It had a new clutch on it a few years back and the seller repainted the bonnet. It need a new tyre on the front apparently. A mate of his will be delivering it to me from Scotland to Devon for an amazing £100 on one of his regular sorties into England.
Here are some photos of it and it nice to see the centre cap on the steering wheel.
Just heard from the seller that the cheque cleared and that it will be delivered sometime tomorrow evening. He also said that he put some fuel in and it fired up but was a wee bit smoky. Not bad after being laid up for 2 years. Looking forward to seeing it in the metal as it were. .

If you enter your machine into Rosemount you could take it up to the working field. I'm sure they would not mind you joining in. I'm not sure if they are doing something similar this year though, it would be a shame if they don't. We don't tend to have much over here for our size of machines.
My Ransomes MG40 was down in with the stationary engines.

In a rare departure, C4 was out this afternoon for some duties in the top field. Firstly pulling out some old fencing buried in the ground, and then moving a a few logs...as well as providing a little light to see.

Did you have a machine there or were you there as a spectator? It would be good to see something similar organised for this year.

On Friday I had a quick trip to see Alan, John and Chris (The Showman), stopping off on the way to drop off a Bolens to the other Chris (Bolens Chris as my lad calls him). It was fantastic to meet up with them all again.

I picked up a Bolens 1054 which I am sure a number of you have seen before. A couple of pictures of the tractor after it arrived safe in Norfolk, the home of Bolens tractors in the UK

It is a 1054-03 which I believe means that it was made in 1972.

I got this last week. I bought it off the second owner from the restoration, it was restored in late 2013 to an extremely high standard, one of the best i have seen, all it needs is a choke cable fitting, i was given the before pictures as well. Here are a couple of pics

hello, Ive stumbled across this wonderful forum for like minded folk.

I recently picked this up, Its not running but looks complete other then a starter motor. And a perished rear tyre due to it been stood on it flat.
It has a diesel 10 hp lombardini engine and i think its 1970's and thats about all I know about it, My plan it to get it started. paint the wheels, maybe replace the tyres with more tractor like tyres and use it.

the first thing i found out about it was how heavy it is, I collected it on my own from someones back garden, had to get it down a alley with 90 degree bend, i had to lift and bounce it round, I think it was worth it.

    any info would be nice
    thanks Ash

Finally managed to find a Turf Trac, typically I have been looking for a couple of years finally bought one from way down south only to find another for sale on Gumtree at Annan 30 miles away ( lot more money ). This one is fitted with a 4ft front mounted cutting deck. The reason I wanted one was that trying to move a dead crawler from one garage to the workshop was just too much for my ride on mower and using a live crawler just chews up the drive and the garage floor. 16.5hp Kubota three cylinder engine starts and runs well. Hydraulic lift front and rear , front and rear pto. four wheel hydrostatic drive with twin ratio axles 11 miles an hour top speed. Pulls like a train and turns in a 36inch inner circle.
Needs a new seat  some decals and a general tidy up. Typical it rained persistently after delivery so limited playing time.

After last nights episode trying to improve bendys transmission, I ended up resorting to swapping back to belts. I'd also noticed that as well as sluggish starting, it occasionally made a horrible grind
So it was out with the engine, the starter is mounted low down on this k341 and you have to lift the engine out...

And here's why I had to play with, the starter is a 10 tooth one, with only 7.5 teeth...

the other is a high mount, and the other from the infamous acorn harvester at Ian's/Nigel's
Fortunately it's a low mounter too, and the teeth are good.
A few minutes later and voila, starts a million times better
Frozen fingers sent me inside for the night.
I was up first thing to defrost the car and thought I'd have a quick test drive.

It's pretty cruel outside, kitchen isn't too warm either
Bendy started first time, here's a few pics in the frost. I need more grip, might be digging the chains out...

Didn't get stuck this time either

Eventually got my worktop folded and fitted. Just stuck it on with CT1 silicone.

Got a shelf up and another under the work bench so i could keep the place looking tidy. Also made a bar to hold my grinders.
