Wallfish reacted to usedtoolman in My O&R Display
The attached picture shows my O&R display at one of the local shows the summer before last. I have added a number of units since then and will be posting some of the more interesting ones in the coming weeks. I am a returning member. I was on the old Forum but am just returning after getting locked out when the forum moved last year.

Wallfish reacted to tackdriver56 in Polaris Power Pole
My PPP is now running, thanks to helpful advice from Wallfish. After changing the diaphragm, I still needed to disassemble the carb and clean the screen adjacent to the needle seat. One other major problem was an opening directly from the gear-case into the induction section, caused by a previous owner failing to install one of the screws. The shaft seal looked a little worn but it's serviceable. Gear oil now stays in the gear case, where it belongs!
I moved SNOW today!

Wallfish reacted to Webhead in O&R Engine rebuild pics
One of the first things that I do before putting an O&R engine back together after dismantling for cleaning and rebuilding, is to give it a leak down test to see if the seals are good and other areas of possible leakage. First, I leave the carb off. Install the spark plug and tighten. Make sure that the points push rod is in place, preferably with a little o ring lube. I then stretch a balloon over the exhaust, past the rivet on the neck. I found a plastic braided hose, about 4" long, that fits snug in to the carb inlet. I then blow in to the hose until the balloon is pretty full, remove my mouth and put my thumb over the hose inlet. Good seals allow the balloon to deflate at a very slow rate. A decent sized leak can actually be heard, hissing out of the bad seal on the flywheel side or the pto side. Other leaks can be at the spark plug or the push rod o ring. I had one that had hairline cracks in the crankcase and took multiple times to find. It appeared to be an engine that had never been ran and was bad from the factory casting.

Wallfish got a reaction from Joe the small engine man in Chainsaw Art
Bought this chainsaw carving from a local guy last year and mounted it up on my shed. Just thought it looked cool with the snow covered beard
Amazing what some guys can do with a chainsaw.

Wallfish got a reaction from pmackellow in Homelite XL Tool collection
Added some more pieces to the Homelite powered tool collection.
Upgraded to a better example of the XLS Water Pump. The old one had a broken handle and was missing the gas tank.
An XL-12 toy chainsaw with box
And a Millitary version of the XL-A115 generator.

Next is the other half of the crank, reed valve and induction sector.
*Something I missed documenting is there is also a seal inside the reed valve part. Just past the bearing race. It's the same exact seal as the induction part seal
The thin paper gasket which goes onto the reed valve is difficult to get on without breaking it. I found that soaking it in the same fuel mix to run these engines softens it up enough to get it on.
Next is the induction sector with gasket was installed. Use screws to hold it in place.
This is a good time to install a new points push rod seal too.

Wallfish got a reaction from nigel in Chip A Saw project
Bought this one in rough condition a while ago. Motor was shot, missing clutch and clutch cover.
Piston took a beating
Saw completely striped down and cleaned. Made a new tank gasket
Made a new clutch cover
Found a good engine for it but it still needs to be gone through.
It's been ready for paint for too long but just haven't got to it yet.
Thanks to Webead for the clutch and thanks to usedtoolman for the NOS bar.
This was a project posted on the old forum but still haven't completed it.

Wallfish got a reaction from Lee in O&R Engine rebuild pics
Decided to get some parts together and rebuild this engine for a BeJay winch I recently bought.
The engine was covered in grime and very stiff to turn over. Since it needed to be completely disassembled just to clean it, might as well do a complete rebuild and document with some pics
Here's the winch
The engine completely disassembled and parts cleaned
Some of the NOS parts to be used. Cylinder, rings, connecting rod, complete seal/gasket kit, coil, flywheel, points, carb, ect.

Started with the piston and connecting rod.
The new rod has a slot to let more oil into the bearings
New rod installed. Then did the rings
I use this motor assembly grease on everything which was recommended from Webhead
Then decided to replace the crank seal in the induction part. Had to pick the old one out with a small dental pick tool

Wallfish got a reaction from nigel in Screw type log splitter
Nice project! Can't wait to see what you do with it.
I have a larger one ( The Stickler ) and thought about using a hydraulic motor to power it through a 25:1 gearbox and attaching it to the bucket of my backhoe. With the screw pointing down, the logs can be poked with the screw as they lay on the ground. No lifting or moving them by hand required until they are done being split. Then use the front loader to scoop and pile them up. Just another hairbrain project in my head which I have all the parts for but haven't done the work to put it together.

Wallfish got a reaction from factory in BEJAY winch
Here's a cool little cable winch that made it's way into my collection.
I usually like to keep them original but this one will probably end up getting a new paint job.
It's kind of heavy and awkward to carry but can't find any where a handle would have been either.
