It has a poker type rod about 5 foot long with a air hose attached to the end, if you look at the second photo its laying on the floor and in the forth photo the chap is holding it with the airline over his shoulder.
He just pokes it in the dirt and turns the air on.

The Bobcat with the pecker just breaks through the tarmac and concrete and loosely the dirt then the vacuum sucks it all up.
The new plastic main is inside the old cast iron pipe, then they disconnect each house and inject expanding foam in between the old and new, smash the old cast iron pipe and fit a saddle.
the service pipe to the house is the same with a plastic pipe inside the old pipe, then just connected to the meter.
all done with live gas so no smoking while they do it.

I went Friday and got set up, Saturday was fine and the showground was packed, Sunday was drizzle all day but i was surprised how many visitors braved the weather in all i had a good weekend.
