That's excellent Ewan; your Dad must be a good teacher. Skills like that will put you in good stead in later life.

Cheers

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, it's mostly my dads work but I'm learning lots :D

Cheers, hoping to have it fully restored for Newby hall :)

Neat job, Ewan. I know where to go now if I need any tin ware replacement. ;)

Nice work lad's, I'm surprised that thick metal had rusted away, as it does look like.. er.. thick metal :)   A water trap maybe?       Nice repairs by the way

We had a customer living about quarter of a mile from the sea who parked his MTD ride-on in an open sided shed , always pointing in the same direction. The side exposed to the sea spray completely rusted away while the other side was more or less untouched . Fortunately MTD were able to supply a complete new chassis section which saved a lot of cutting and shutting.

Yes it is a water trap, water had got in between the spot welds and the rust had expanded, heres a pic of the side we haven't fixed yet.

Been busy today cleaning up the chassis and painting, here's some pictures.

I'm pleased with the result after a coat of etch primer, it feels like I'm getting somewhere now :D

To help fill the rust pits I'm brushing on red oxide primer.

My new toy arrived last week so hopefully it should speed up the restoration and hopefully I will be able to achieve a good clean surface so I can use etch primer. :)

Brilliant work Ewan how you finding the blast cabinet?

Thanks, I'm liking it, I'm putting everything in an E-tank first to clean the paint off, just so it blasts quicker but it is doing a good job, it's a good size so I will be able to fit my bonnet and wheels in there :D

Looking forward to seeing this at Newby Hall

Hopefully it will look like it has just come out of the factory :)

Where he left it. :P

Rig up some kind of dust extraction system, Ewan. NOT your mother's vacuum cleaner. ;)

Haha, yep I was thinking about the dust extraction.

Brill job Ewan, looking good mate, well done

Thanks Chris

That's stunning work Ewan; you really are cracking on with it.

Can't relax until I see the chassis painted in yellow; looking worryingly like your Dad's WH influence there......:)

Thanks, at one point he did comment on painting it red....

After a coat of etch primer

A previous owner of the tractor had stripped all of the threads off of the light switch and so the nut had to be cut off.

After cutting the nut off I discovered this.

Luckily we managed to save the light switch by cutting new threads :D
