moogie 372 #1 Posted March 13, 2016 A few photos if the tear down. Its surprising how quickly these Wheelhorses come apart. Someone must have had a problem with the belt slipping at one point and made up a couple of crude brackets. The rear most one was actually wearing away the back of the belt. That Kohler engine is one heavy son of a bitch. They are certainly made to last. The Wheelhorse has been painted at some point in its life and after the engine was removed i found a patch of the original paint, which was quite pink to my surprise. Most of the information i have found about paint colours say to use International Harvester 2150. The closest i can find, going by what was under the engine is Ral 3001 signal red. Now the work hard really begins, cleaning, sanding and painting. 12 minky, meadowfield, diggerjames and 9 others reacted to this
C-101plowerpower 548 #2 Posted March 14, 2016 looking good, they really come apart quickly. the paint i used on mine is RAL 3003 ruby red good luck with the refurb
moogie 372 #3 Posted March 23, 2016 It feels like i have been cleaning and sanding parts forever, but eventually got to the point where i could start to blow on some paint. Made a bit of a spray booth out of the frame of the gazebo and a couple of sheets. Didn't want the workshop covered in over spray. The Wheel horse now has something that it never had from the factory, primer! 8 nigel, minky, Stormin and 5 others reacted to this

If you need to know what was there originally to control the Clutch/Belt operation, use this link to my images and dimensions of the missing bit that is welded to the Clutch Idler Pulley Arm - http://s1190.photobucket.com/user/AngloTraction/library/OddsnSods?sort=3&page=2 Good luck with your project 1 moogie reacted to this

moogie 372 #11 Posted March 29, 2016 I was going well today until i ran out of paint and the supplier is closed for the holidays. Doh! so im going to have to wait another day or two to get everything finished off. Decided to start building what i had. Got on quite well, i think its looking good. Put the wheels on for now but they will be sent off to the bead blasters at a later date and finished off in an off white. 4 C-101plowerpower, nigel, Alan and 1 other reacted to this

moogie 372 #13 Posted March 30, 2016 Managed to get some more paint today and sprayed the remaining parts. Top pip. If you are going to do a complete strip down, take LOT'S of photo's. I wish i had. There was a bit of head scratching went on when i was trying to reassemble some of the parts. Apart from that i got on fairly well today. Working with fresh paint is not fun, its so easy to inflict large scrapes with the slightest touch. 1 nigel reacted to this

You can put a heavy on and it doesn't run. The colour is the older International colour.

moogie 372 #19 Posted March 31, 2016 Not much left to do now. Just need to get a new seat, paint the wheels, find a rubber boot for the gear leaver and a replacement headlight lens. If anyone knows where i can get the last two items please send me a pm. 1 expeatfarmer reacted to this
moogie 372 #20 Posted March 31, 2016 Forgot to ask, is the decal relevant to my model of Wheel Horse ? If so where does it go ?
Stormin 4,458 #21 Posted March 31, 2016 You'll be lucky to find a light lens. Like hens teeth. Mark, (meadowfield), does decals that you can fix to a piece of clear plastic. As to those instructions for clutch adjustment, I would say they are for something else. 1 moogie reacted to this

Hate to be the bringer of an issue (if you haven't already spotted it), but I feel you will have problems with the Clutch/Drive disengagement from the engine. Assuming you have repaired the Clutch Idler issue I mentioned previously, I noticed you are also missing the essential Top Tab on the Belt Cover Panel that controls the drive belt tension on the Engine pulley. It needs to be there to release the Belt engagement when the clutch is operated/depressed.
