Now confirmed as an Atlas lathe via the WWW. Thanks for the info Norm.

Thanks Norm. It's just as it was after uncovering. Not cleaned up at all. There are no markings anywhere on the lathe to give a clue. I'll do some research on Atlas lathes to see if I can identify it for certain.

It's been a while since I posted an update although there is nothing really exciting to say. It is now just over a year since disposal of John's collection started. Most items have gone to collectors, MoM members ( you know who you are, thanks ) plus eBay sales, and other things by word of mouth. A lot of small items, Austin 7 & 10 parts, which John inherited years ago have also gone. Things which we didn't think were worth the bother listing on eBay sold for a lot more than expected. One mans junk ............ worth the effort in the end although a lot of time spent in the process. Still various mowers to sort including a J.P Super Simplex which was classed as the Rolls Royce of mowers in it's day. A Villiers 20 engine, 3 Westwood tractors which are only fit for spares and a lathe of unknown make, unless someone knows otherwise. About 5" center height by 20". Surface rust, which I have cleaned up in places. Would have this myself but probably wouldn't use it much and no room anyway. Most of John's cars have also gone. Ranging from parts doners to runners to a few in VERY good condition, the best one of the lot is this Marina automatic which the Showman got running late last year after about 10 years of storage. It was a bit erratic, traced to a leaking fuel pipe which was changed a few days ago. Thanks Chris. Now running nicely Chris couldn't wait to drive it out of the shed for a photo session even though it wasn't painted in his favourite red. Even though he can't drive now John THINKS he would like to hang on to this one for now, at least until his land is sold. I expect he will decide otherwise soon. Still enough to keep me occupied for a while yet, and also a day out each week for the Showman which stops him from getting into trouble at home.

This one Norm. ? With the Showman wondering what it would look like painted RED. Or is there another Alan with a roper. ? 1978 GT16 6 speed. 16 hp Briggs horizontal opposed twin. Not had enough use out of it since restoring, so can't really comment on how reliable the engine and transmission is, although all appears OK so far. If he restores the trailer wrecks still at John's, he can have a road train.

Went for scrap Paul. Chris said it was too heavy for Pam to push. Still a few smaller one's around if you want to make a gang roller. Did you know that your conversion was done with metal from John's, a welder from John's and the powered hacksaw from John's, which I would have had for myself if I hadn't been daft enough to tell Chris which pile of junk it was under. Bits were flying in all directions until he found it.

You should have had the big roller from John's Chris. Would have made Norm's and Paul's look like baby's.

It wood, and it wood look good with a load of wood for Pam's wood store before the wood gets burned in the wood burner, then Chris can use the wood store for red bits which he wood have done before Pam threatened him with a lump of 4x2 wood. Time to head for the woods to now.

Thought you'd built the tractor and trailer in 45 minute's, silly me. Don't let the Showman see that shelter. He is always looking for wood for his fire.

It was in good condition 43 odd years ago. The weather has given it a good battering though. There are a few similar wheels and tires still in storage in John's barn.

I told him if it was tipped on it's side it would go into the sprinter. He didn't want to know.

After weeks of sorting, finding goodie's and clearing junk, the Showman and I thought we would have a play for a change. Chris had left one of his horses on site for haulage duty's in case it was needed while I was finishing off my Roper, so as it was a nice sunny day we had a drive around to start with. Last week, during his usual end of day walkabout, Chris spotted a long lost trailer which I knew was somewhere on John's land. We decided to drag it out from the undergrowth for a better look. As expected it was in poor condition, the woodwork having rotted away and the lighter metal not much better. The main chassis was still good and solid and the wheels still revolved. Hitching up one tractor got it moving until the wet muddy ground caused wheel spin. The same result with the other tractor. Both tractors hitched up together did the trick. The trailer was then towed across the field to a new resting place. For some unknown reason, the sun decided to replace it's self with clouds and rain so we finished up a bit soggy. As usually happens, after spoiling the fun the sun decided to play nicely again. We didn't manage to take photo's of the tow in progress. Too busy having fun. The last photo, scanned from an old print, shows the same trailer about 43 years ago just after John and I had returned from a Bolens and equipment recovery trip. The things we got away with in those days. Just imagine being on the road with that lot these days. My son, on the tractor, was just pretending to drive. The Bolens in the trailer has somehow now found it's way to Norfolk. The four wheel trailer is the one Chris is restoring now. Another fun filled day. Thanks Chris.

He's waiting until he gets a van load to make the journey worthwhile. He'll need to fill it up for the return trip too.

Don't think a jiffy bag would be strong enough, but Chris could deliver with his Royal Mail Red Sprinter van. If he leaves now he should get to you before the fall. I'm off to now before he see's this.
