Thanks Charlie. You guessed right Koen, it is a Bing.. Hold fire on looking through your carb collection for now, a new carb has been ordered which should arrive today.. Hi James, I knew about the Renault engine, I didn't know the rest of a D250 was Gutbrod! The fender pan is hard work but it's getting there slowly. To see where the smaller dents are I had to strip off the red powder coating which wasn't much fun as it's hard stuff! I gave the back of the pan a quick coat of blue paint and gave it a light sanding back once it had dried.. The blue bits left are all low spots which need to be beaten out.. Slowly the blue bits are going as the pan gets straighter. This is the corner where the big kink was That's enough about the fender pan, now onto an inlet manifold for the new carb.. Lathe work has been interesting due to problems with both Nigel's and my lathes but we got there in the end.. Starting with a bit of pipe being cleaned up. The inside was bored out a bit so it would be a tight fit on the original manifold. Boring out the mounting flange. A taper was cut so the pipe could be firmly welded on. Like so Now that's a nice bead of weld Back on the lathe to turn the welds down and give a nice flat mounting surface.. A bit of trimming, cleaning, welding and painting later the carb bolts on It's a shame the carb has problems but a new one should be arriving today

Bit more progress today. After much holding the ram in various positions, I decided the only place for it was under the fender. So that is where it is. Attached to the rear fulcrum. Lift lever and/or pump can be used. Also the lift lever will act as a lock when hitch raised. Attached to the side of the hood stand. Very convenient hole already there. It is a very tight fit, but nothing catches. The ram does not travel to it's full extent and cut out switches may be needed. I think/hope that should be ok. Just have to suck it and see. I did think the hoses may have been to short, but in fact they are to long. So I'll get them shortened after refitting the pump and motor. Switch to fit and wiring next.

    Wheel Horse Raider 10 Stolen

Thanks everyone for the comments and giving this attention, especially to Headexam for sharing it here before I was able too (I wasn't a member). Sadly the 'oss is still missing despite my searching and asking, the children have even turned into superheroes of late and been using their powers in the search! I have become quite obsessed with this and even taken holiday from work to try and track her down but at present seem to have hit a wall, I'm very disappointed with the Police for leaving her there where she was first dumped, besides anything else it was a school route and if any of the children had started her it could have ended in a very messy way. Please keep vigilant, I can name several distinguishing marks besides the obvious.

It's not ideal, I know but gear levers get in the way of a bar right across. I'll see what happens when tested. I may put a strengthening plate top to bottom or some kind of bracing. When the top plate is on, that will stiffen things up.

Got the connecting arm made today. First off I made a cardboard one. This was so I could get the curve right and length. I made arm in three parts. This was to allow clearance when third gear is engaged. Also allowed me to adjust length and position before final welding. Everything seems to work OK, so next thing is painting. Must admit I was lucky. Of the 1"x1/4" flat I had available, I only had 1" left over.

it's a good job it's a Renault engine not a VW engine or emissions would be wrong as well

yep, you're right, the d250 is basically the same as a gutbrod 2500, just a different colour and decals

    New workshop

Slow progress, last weeks navigation canal slowed us down. The calm and wet has forced me to this painting in the dining room Missus not impressed, dog keeps jumping up to have a look and gets paint in her paws, then runs off...

The D250 was built by Gutbrod and did have a Renault 850cc engine.

Bit more done today. Modifying the hitch lift system. Basically after much umming and ahhing, I decided on copying Mark and Ewan's mod. (Ride On's. Page 11) So far, spindle, housings and arms made. I did think of fitting bushes in the housings, but I'd no material to make any and I wasn't going to do a 60 mile round trip. I have fitted grease nipples, so things should last me out. I'll have to drill a hole in the fender for access to the LH one. The RH can be reached via the trans filler tube hole. One mistake I did make, was to make the housing securing tabs long enough. The screw and nut are fouling the trans oil filler tube. Not a problem, just annoying. Photo below.
