Another update. Chris arrived with his mate Paul this morning after collecting an item near me. My main concern was getting the tractor off the pallet which we did with a bit of juggling. I was mightily relieved that it all went to plan. The next job was to see if we could fire up the old girl. The oil was drained as was the fuel tank for shipping. Fresh oil was poured in and the oil filter changed as was the transmission oil (which wasn't too rank looking) and filter. Chris poured in 8 litres og hydro oil as we could not check the level due to a broken hydro dipstick. I poured in fresh petrol with a Briggs and Stratton Fuel Fix additive. The battery was hooked up and with a turn of the ignition bought the engine to life. The noise was deafening in the garage with very little smoke which gradually disappeared as it warmed up. There was a bit of hunting which Chris adjusted to factory settings. Due to where the lockup is, we both felt we couldn't do a test run. The hunting is still there but can be tweaked when the engine is warm. We jacked up the rear to see if the wheel turns ok and thankfully they did. I need a few things on my shopping list including a new dipstick for the hydro, plus an air filter (on order), fuel lines as the old ones are hard, battery leads and clamps, condenser, tinware, new wiring loom etc. I am really chuffed with it and as Rick said it is a 'good fixer upper'.I have added two videos I hope. The first one is when it fired up the first time and the second is Chris tweaking the hunting. I have included a photo of the battered hydro filter. I am very grateful to have Chris and his friend Paul helping me out on this project. In fact Chris is hoping to come down again to carry on with a bit more work on the HT20 when he can fit in in between his Bolens, family and work. Also thanks to Iain ffor his arcane knowledge on these LFs and Rick for agreeing to source the tinware for the engine etc. Always great to see a fellow Bolens enthusiast willing to help out

Bonnet has now been sprayed with filler primmer. As expected quite a few areas needing further attention showed up. After being allowed to set for a few days, this will be guide coated and given a layer of stopper. Tonight before I left work I gave the old girl a very thourgh pressure wash ready for stripping the paint off in the morning if its not too cold/wet.

Oh well, it would've been good but it doesn't matter. I can't thank you enough for finding the engine! I just hope we can rebuild it and get it running

Welcome to the forum. Don't throw the original bottles away, these machines which are still being made & used (with a different shape bottle) are often sold without the bottle. Yes many of the old pesticides are now banned, such as DDT & Zineb (not in all countries though when I checked), but some are still available such as certain types of Acaricide & Malathion, I haven't checked all of the list in the brochure above. If the contents are not wanted they could be transferred (wear gloves as the concentrated chemicals are probably harmful) into a modern bottle, labelled and disposed of properly. Though some people working at waste/recycling centres haven't a clue what to do with chemicals, I took a jar of chemicals to my local waste/recycling centre & when asked where to dispose of it, he took it off me and threw it in the bottle bank with the contents. Anyone reading this should check for current info on the chemicals to find out if they are banned or restricted and how harmful they are. David

Wooo I have an engine So after some research I have discovered that the model B1260 (above) and the model B1290 (correct one for the RJ) are exactly the same engine, the only difference is that the 1260 had a reduction box added from factory, hopefully after a rebuild it should bolt straight in .
