Just found the photo's that I couldn't find.   This shows the cross member assembly trial fitted at the front of the chassis.  Thought I also had one showing it before fitting but no sign of it.

Should have mentioned earlier that I had a LOT of help from Iain ( slf-uk ) with photo's and measurements.  On one of his numerous visits to John's he mentioned that he had a D-160 and 200 and offered to obtain any details I required.  This offer was taken up countless times with Iain dropping everything, day and night, and rushing into his workshop with camera, tape, and notebook.  Well, not quite rushing but a speedy response. A lot of the photo's found on the internet didn't show details from the correct angle but a request to Iain explaining what I wanted produced the required result.  A BIG THANKS Iain.

Now that the grill surround was made it needed something to fill the hole.  The grill was made from 3/4 x 1/2" alloy angle with 3/16" silver steel uprights, threaded 2BA at the top and drilled 1/16" at the bottom for a wire pin.  The spacers were from alloy tube.  Using the 1/2" width of the angle as the front face with a 1/2" gap between each plus the same top and bottom looked about right.  A lot of careful measuring, cutting and drilling gave a good copy of the original.  The anti rattle leaf spring at the top was from steel shim with threaded tubes over the tops of the uprights where they protruded through the grill surround. This alloy angle was from a green house which John and I dismantled years ago for a friend of his, transported back to his land, stored behind his shed and has never moved until recently.  I saved a good selection of various sizes.

Finally, I just had to give the grill a coat or two of paint, the first item painted, to see what it looked like.

Hi all, I have made some progress, I have removed all the rust, and painted the Horse The quality of finish isn't too bad and I have added the Wheelhorse decals (thanks Mark!). She needs the seat recovering and some engine/electrical work, and the wheels painting- once that is done I will upload a video. But for now, here is a pic!

Hello the electrostaticy is fantastic the powder is so flexible once cured. You can powder coat tin foil crumple it up ....unfortunately fold and the powdercoat is still intact. I didn't use Primer my alloys were done without Primer 5 years ago and still great and it's a lawning mower on a budget the powder I got of eBay roughly £15 per kg for simple colours. When you get into chrome and candies the price goes up. Withe the candy and chrome you also do 2 coats and the cure together to get some amazing colours and effects.
This is the oven I made out of a old filing cabinet and a 99p cooker of eBay:)

Job finished for me. The places where I've not cut have sleepers and other objects in. I was told not to bother about them.

meadowfield reacted to Alan in DO NOT repeat DO NOT let Mr Showman tow your caravan
While at our favourite, favorite for those of you across the pond, hunting ground yesterday, Chris decided to tow one of John's caravans to a more scenic spot.  It had been tucked away hidden from view for years.  Chris thought it would make a nice tea and chat room for the many visitors we get to view John's rapidly decreasing piles of scrap metal and general junk.

I was a bit dubious but Chris reminded me that he had years of experience towing caravans, old and new, for one of the main dealers.  Reassured with this news I said go ahead and went off to attend to others matters.

A few minutes later Chris came looking for me with a VERY RED face.  "I'm sorry" he managed to force out of his mouth, floods of tears rolling down his cheeks, and his lips trembling. "I've had a little accident, don't know how it happened, but it could have been the rough ground, that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it".  I was horrified. A perfectly good caravan RUINED.  " It's never happened to me before, Chris managed to mumble", before bursting into more floods of tears.  At this stage I began to feel a bit sorry for him and made him ANOTHER cup of tea.  After he had regained his composure and started to look a bit more cheerful, he asked if I would take a photo of him posing as if he had just killed a wild animal.  You can see this photo below.

It was decided that repairs could probably be made without having to claim on Chris's insurance, which was just as well as he informed me that he didn't have any.  Anyway, for those of you with weak hearts, close your eye's before viewing the photo's below.

Finally,  if you decide to get Chris to move your caravan, make sure it is well wrapped in bubble wrap or cotton wool.  You have been WARNED.

As the front axles were 3/8" and the Bolens wheel bores 3/4", bushes to fit both were required.  A hunt through my bits and pieces for something suitable drew a blank and nothing found on the internet.  I could probably have made these up on my Unimat lathe but no suitable material to hand at the time.  I came up with a different idea using parts lying around.  New axles  were made using 10mm  coach bolts and nuts, stainless tube and 10mm bolts.

The tube was threaded10mm internally each end, it was luckily close enough to the correct tapping size. One end was screwed onto the cut down coach bolt after fitting it to the angle iron hub, the wheel retaining bolt fitted in the outer end.  Suitable bronze bushes with the correct ID and OD from the spares box finished the job.     These look a bit over the top but didn't take long to make.  Took longer looking for the bits.  The king pin was left at 3/8".  Weld between the two inner ends made the unit extra rigid.

Hello all I am new to the group,i have bought my father in law a ride on mower as he is staring to struggle doing his big garden by hand.I am not made of money so had to get a fixer up and come across a westwood gazelle w11. It was in a sorry state but I have spent the last 4 weeks taking back to bare metal and powdercoating every part , replacing every nut and bolt. My question is I have spent all this time doing the restoration I didn't think to ask the question are these any good at cutting grass?
