Can you post some photos?
-
That’s awesome, thank you for posting the video. Always fun seeing these tools in action!
-
Wonder if you could put the starter reel from the Drillgine into the recoil housing for the TT, that way it would match up to the starter dogs on the Drillgine flywheel?
-
I sent you a separate note about the starting process and some of the things that these engines usually require to get them running again, hope it helps.
-
I hear ya, things have been busier than usual here too. Thankful to be employed during times like this, that’s for sure. Hoping to get back into a rhythm on these O&R’s soon!
-
Yep, along with rust, grease, Kroil and some trace lead paint...
Thanks!
-
I’ll add some more photos later but I’m now one with O&R... while working on the cutoff saw I was trying to remove a set screw/bolt with quite a bit of force. The slotted head snapped and the screwdriver skewered my hand between my thumb and pointer finger. I ended up at the ER yesterday and when they did x-rays they saw a piece of shrapnel. Apparently half of the screw head that snapped off went with the screwdriver blade and got lodged deep in my hand. I go in for surgery tomorrow morning for them to try to fish it out. You can see in this first photo the half of the screw that chipped off.
Piece of the screw removed from my hand this morning...
-
I think there is also a NOS O&R rope on eBay...
-
Very nice, that looks great! FYI, Stens makes an aftermarket rope that looks really good and is the right size.
-
I stripped to bare metal and used a base primer. I don’t think the paint+primers work all that great by themselves unless maybe you’re touching up a painted surface that is still in good shape.
-
Should have seen the other two white towels... the whole outside of the engine was covered in thick dried grease like you often find in the gear boxes.
-
Finally getting to this project. I thought it was going to be a fairly straightforward tear down but NOPE this thing had surprises at every turn. I even had to drill out a couple screws. It’s finally all apart now. The paint isn’t in the greatest condition (looks better in the photos than it actually is) but I’m planning to keep it as-is. It would look awesome fully repainted but I’m probably not going that route on this one. The engine is a real mess...
-
wow, $25 is a steal - nice find!
-
I ended up doing the same thing.
I’m still hoping to find someone locally with a lathe to make a couple.
-
I've found this Ace Hardware Banner Red to be a decent match, especially for the older style engines. Search in the O&R section for a Chip-A-Saw restoration and you’ll see what it looks like on the recoil cover.
-
Very cool, nice find - looks like new!
-
Someone out there has a huge stash of these knobs from the recent eBay parts lots That sold. I’m trying to find someone local with a lathe to see what it would cost to turn a couple. If I had a lathe I’d do it...
-
Thanks David, awesome find! I’ll let the owner know of this issue of Mechanix Illustrated.
-
This one isn’t mine, sadly. I was contacted for a carburetor diaphragm and gasket. I requested permission to post these photos as I thought you all would enjoy this one. I’ve not seen this winch before, how about anyone else? Looks to be made by Irvington out of Portland, OR.
-
Finally all back together. I don’t have a natural wood knob so I have a black one on there temporarily. It has really strong compression now and spark but I haven’t tried to run it yet.
-
Overall it’s in pretty nice condition. I am going to need to come up with a solution for the induction case seal, it was deteriorated.
-
Very nice, cool to see an O&R bit in this magazine - nicely done pmackellow!
-
I’d like to read that- what issue?
-
Ha, I haven’t tested it yet other than I did verify spark and it’s nice and strong so I’m confident the engine will run. I just wanted to put a fresh new spark plug in it and didn’t have one handy.
-
I really like how these early models were designed. I’ve got it all torn down now.
