howardman reacted to Darmic1 in Farmers Boy Minor
Thanks Chris! Will be unusual for me not to restore something........ But seeing guys and gals actually getting in the dirt
and playing with their machines has me curious? Gotta give it a go! I will be checking all is in fine fettle beforehand, hence
the engine being off the 2nd machine, don't want any unreliability do we??? (no mentions of the Gem and Bantam at
Ardingly..........)
Anyways here are a couple of daylight piccies....

howardman got a reaction from vegikev in are you an anzani owner
I live in Ireland and its surprising how many Anzani Iron horses are hidden away in sheds . From bringing my own iron horse to vintage shows I have met about 9 other owners , most are parked up in sheds , but there are two in Dublin that go to the ploughing matches. I believe the late George Holt had a long list of Uk owners. At one show I met an elderly gentleman ,less that two miles from me and got invited to see his sheds ...which to my delight had a fine easimow..almost like new . He said it was much too heavy and tended to sink into the lawn when he tried it out...he had a jap 5 engine that I managed to buy off him , that now powers my own iron horse.

howardman got a reaction from Triumph66 in Sickle Mower Advice
The Hayter 26 motor scythe has no reverse....would be tricky to use in confined spaces. Its very fast for open areas and if you fit an electronic coil from a later briggs would be reliable. Its kick start via the 3 speed albion gearbox...1st gear is nice and slow..3rd gear you would have to run after it!!!

howardman got a reaction from Triumph66 in Old Hayter and Ransomes
Those old 26" roller drive hayters were built like tanks i have one for years ..a mighty machine to cut high grass with the 4 blade deck attachment. The cylinder mower attachment gives a rough enough cut but has its use. A roller seat was also available.

howardman got a reaction from Triumph66 in Sickle Mower Advice
I have an allen scythe and a sickle bar attachment for my howard dragon..but my preffered machine for high grass is my Hayter 26"roller drive motor scythe . These old hayters will make fast work of high grass without smothering you in a clould of oily blue smoke (allen Scythe). There was one on the" for sale" section of this site some time back.

howardman reacted to Darmic1 in ORLine Power Tools
I finally managed to get some Garage time to reassemble the 2 models acquired from 'Wallfish' and the USofA. The first is an ORLine Mustang Chainsaw, the other is an ORLine Hedge trimmer. Both will be restored in the fullness of time, but for now they are reassembled and will be tested over the next couple of days. Here are a couple of picture of them........

howardman got a reaction from pmackellow in Martin Markham Colt Deluxe
Nice find ..looks to be a good solid machine......they had i believe lots of attachments, and the kohler engines are great. I am tempted by a jacobson chief 1200 at the moment myself (12hp Kohler 1968)..but my sheds are packed!!

howardman got a reaction from Vinnetrow in Auto culto Autogardener Restoration
This project was laying in the back of the shed for 5 years , but when I sourced the correct engine (villiers mark 15 OHV) last year finally made a start. It was quiet a mess , but came with a plough, Discs, and large ridge plough, Tool frame and i also bought a Rotavator attachment separately 2 years ago.
It was very oily ..so first job was dismantle and spray with "oil eater"
it was messy to dismantle with oil everywhere from a leaking gearbox (worn bronze wheel bushings)
Here is the new bronze wheel bush fitted..the old worn ones caused the wheels to wobble!!
The gearbox fell off the bench ..cast iron is not strong !! big setback. But welded okay
Its chain drive so gearbox needs to be oil tight
Better view of welding repair
Its drive gearbox (upper) is an albion with a reverse..this was seized but managed to free it up. Filled with non ep gear oil..as it has bronze phosphorus components
Finally got to priming after shot blasting most parts (paint was very tough possibly contained lead)
Finished in John Deere Yellow missing from pic is heavy front weight.
. Engine is great ..good starter and burns clean. Now must start on all the attachments

howardman reacted to Lauber1 in David Bradley, the walkers
Along with the riders I also have several different models of the walk-behind DB's. I never went all out in collecting these, as with 23 models and 50 -60 attachments, it would take a large shed to store them. So here is a few of them and some working ones.

howardman got a reaction from S1g in British Anzani Iron Horse Restoration
Purchased this in 2012 (eBay) and restored last winter/ spring . It was in poor condition and the engine was shot ..so replaced original engine with one of same type ..a jap 5 with heavy flywheel and wipac mag. It was a nightmare to move on metal wheels so later type wheels fitted on those hard to get 600x 22 tyres . It was made in 1946.

howardman got a reaction from Lauber1 in British Anzani Iron Horse Restoration
The engine is a jap 5 ...made in London by John Arthur Prestwich....with a good exhaust it sounds great...low reving and even/quiet. Will put up video on you tube when i haul it out of shed for next vintage show (running) but in the meantime here is a youtube link to a 2011 gathering of 25 anzani iron horses making a world record attempt at a ploughing event in the Uk. Mick Green who features in the video was invaluble to me in supplying a lot of parts and is the expert on these machines
