slf-uk got a reaction from HeadExam in Bolens Ride-a-matic
Today Joseph and I had a day in the workshop and we did some work on the 1962 RAM. The original plan was to fix some of the bodges and make up some missing parts. The more we looked at it the more problems we found. We ended the day with the hood, grill, fuel tank and engine off.
The blue wire was the fixing to hold the top of the grill
I was surprised how heavy the cast grill was
Then the hood came off which is was fiddly
We ended the day with most of the front apart
The fuel system was dismantled and cooked in the ultrasonic cleaner, all the missing fixings were replaced and a few other jobs. It's now ready for reassembly.

Great pictures, a fine pair of tractors.
I have been having a similar problem over the last few days with Joseph getting stuck on an identical tractor to the one I was using. I added two wheel weights to each side of the tractor he was using and he was still getting stuck but I wasn't.
I think I need to either feed him up with mince pies or more to the point eat less myself.

What I'm thinking is making it to mount behind, in front or even alongside of a tractor, with a pipe/tube into a trailer. Bit like a forage harvester.

slf-uk got a reaction from DougC in Tractor fun for the Christmas break
I have not had much tractor time this year mainly due to work and family commitments. I have the time off between Christmas and the New Year so today Joseph and I have hooked out three tractors to spanner. I have no idea what progress we will make.
These are the three we choose to look at. From left to right 1961 Bolens Ride-a-matic, 1962 Bolens Ride-a-matic and a Wheelhorse D160
The previous owner of the 1961 Ride-a-matic added a few "extras" I guess for health and safety reasons, or should that be "elf and safety" this time of the year
Joseph really loves the 1962 Ride-a-matic and can't keep off it
Santa arrived early for me too even if I had to buy it myself
To finish this post off we took a festive picture of the tractors with the outside Christmas tree in the background
Merry Christmas everyone!!

Great line up of three fine tractors. I see Joseph is still hankering after the '62 RAM! A man of impeccable taste!

Great collection of equipment. I have a soft spot for cab's on GT's, most look a little odd but yours is spot on, love it.

Thanks Iain, glad you like the extra "silliness" in the vid... I wasn't sure how people would take to it..
The full size Nigel spends most of he's time sitting down, if the small bloke had a chair nothing would ever get done
Before the engine could go back in there was a slight frame mod to do.. As the shock mounts had been moved up..
The strengthening bar between them also got moved up..
Engine in, thanks for your help today Rob should you be reading this.
I just need to finish sorting out the rat's nest of a wiring loom!
Yesterday all the front end parts had a session with some rattle cans.
A spring looking good in black.. Well, it did look good until I noticed how much I had missed on the other side.. Spring can be a right pain to paint!
The front end bolted back on.. The good thing with painting everything satin black is I can just spray over any pain chips without having to mask anything up

Legged pullers that hook under the flywheel are a strict NO, NO. You can end up with a split flywheel or worse still a cracked one that flies apart later.
Make what you need when you need it - will always come in useful!

A bit of an update.
I've been unable to locate a replacement condenser, it being one side of the points and to all reports, obsolete. So today a nice new electronic coil arrived. Also a new air filter to replace the dust that was the original.
New coil soon fitted and tried and very healthy spark from the plug. So next everything was put back together. Then the throttle cable decided to let me know it was practically seized.
Off with that and after several applications of 3in1 oil and pulling back and forth, it freed to an acceptable level of movement.
Right! It was now time to see if it would run. To start with, I just squirted some petrol into the carb and gave the pull cord a few jerks. This resulted in a couple of coughs from the exhaust. Promising!
Some petrol into the tank and lets try again after another dose down the carb. It fired and ran. Briefly! Tried again with same procedure and got same result. It wouldn't take any notice of the throttle position. Choke shut and opened ok. Bit of head scratching, sitting and thinking. Staring at the bench. Hang on! What's this?
In the box that had held all the bit's and bob's, was a small rod and light spring. The one that connects throttle butterfly to lever. So now all I have to do is remember/workout just how it fits. I jest not.
