A couple of quick pictures of the tractors where they were parked up after the move to Norfolk. Slowly moving them elsewhere being towed by my 7 year old lad, the demon Gator driver

Adding the hardener on the last two coats is really nice, sets up dry in less than an hour and can recoat in 30 minutes or less. I’ve got the deck ready to go on the black and white Bolens H16 with the big knobby tires, those tires are coming off and a brand new set of Carlisle 24x9.50-12 multi-trac C/S turf tires will be going on the back and matching front Carlisle front turf tires, these are HIGH dollar turf tires well over 400 for a set for that taller size, I got them at half price on sale. The knobby ITP 589 and front tri-ribs will be going on the Bolens 1556 and on the red wheels along with the wheel weights. So the Bolens 1556 will be my AG tractor and the H16 will be my mower model, Between the two of them I have 10 implements that will go on either. I just finished the H16 deck and 1556 wheels

SWMBO keeps mentioning the Spitfire and how she would like it back on the road. So while the horses were still on the trailer, I decided to give the workshop a bit of a clear up and rearrangement, so work on Spit could commence..

Not seen that much floor space since It was built.

    Hi,

Had an afternoon on the Cub today. I wanted to see if the engine ran OK and there was no major problems so I hooked up a coil and tried it. Well I say I did, it looked like someone had tried to do it before. Cleaned the carb and off she went, and I've got proof

    http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/whtom/th_510BD656-0C65-4948-AA57-A3219A31E413.mp4

The engine runs well for it's age in my opinion. It hunts a bit but I have a NOS carb for it which I am tempted to stick on, I'm also going to fit new points, condenser, magneto coil, fuel sediment bowl and fuel lines. A birthday really I had a drive well and it all seemed really good. The only problem seemed to be the steering which was very tight, I thought it was the steering box which worried me as I was hoping I was going to get away without taking it out and rebuilding it for now. I jacked the front up and it turned out to be the spindles were very stiff, I had great difficulty in getting them out! After eventually getting them out I soaked them in the parts cleaner and it sanded everything down, re-greased and they were 1000x better.

I put it back together had a quick drive and it is so much better, I am very happy with it now. Now just to get some bits for it, tempted to take this to Rural past times..

    Very true Max

No photo's from today, so here's a list of what's left to do...

Find out why the fuel tap is leaking..
    Fill diff with oil.
Finish the wiring, it's about 90% done.
Finish the prop shaft.. About 50% done.
Bleed the brakes again to get the last of the air out.
Warm the engine up and change the oil.
    Set the front end up.
    Get WN off the bench..
    Go for a test drive

I expect there will be a few more things I've missed from the list, but roll on tomorrow

A mate brought around a truck load of goodies for me on Friday, which includes some good wood, steel, and some metal cupboards and shelving. I am in so much trouble with the boss and I had to listen to my list of my crimes this morning. This included not cutting the grass last weekend, putting the Bolens stash in the garden and now filling the drive with what has been described as rubbish (or words to that effect).

Apparently if I was single everywhere would be littered with this sort of stuff. She does make being single sounds very attractive  I foreseen a weekend of grass cutting and moving things about. I am going to try to compress that into today so I can start to check out the stash tomorrow.

Hi Charlie, I did the front tyre swaps on WN today so I took a few photo's to help you...

Tools of the trade... Valve spring compressors, valve removal tool, a bit of thick wall pipe and of course some tyre levers..

First things first.. Take the valve out and stand well back while all the smelly air escapes..

Get the valve spring compressor and hook the base over the edge of the wheel rim

Push down on the spring compressor lever until the threaded adjustable bit touches the tyre and the edge of the rim.

Wind the adjustable bit down until it pushes under the edge of the rim..

I find a bit of extra leverage is handy so I slide this short length of bike fork tube ( I call it a ex-stanchion bar ) over the lever.

A bit of pressure later and a nice large bit of the wheel rim inside is showing..

Keep the pressure on with one hand and after a bit of gentle levering with a tyre lever the tyre pops off the bead.

Turn the wheel over and do it all again to pop the other side of the tyre off the bead.

Levering one side of the tyre off the rim is quite easy (don't forget the lube) so I didn't take any photos of it, however getting the other side off can be a pain..

It's a bit hard to see from this photo, my left hand is holding down two tyre levers that are spaced apart but are also in between the tyre and the wheel rim.
The tyre lever in my right hand is being used to turn the rim rather than lever it..

A few smallish turns of the rim and it pops out of the tyre

I hope this helps you out Charlie, as for getting the new tyre on.... It took a lot of swearing and sweat and two hands which is why I didn't take any photos of it!

A cautionary tale for you all...

There I was busy cleaning a wheel rim with a sanding wheel in the electric drill. I can't hear anything over the sound of the drill, so I'm in a little world of my own..
I had no idea that Nigel had been behind me for a few min's trying to get my attention..  When he finally did get my attention it made me jump and knock the wheel I was working on off the bench!
The wheel hit the concrete floor with a bang and a flash!  I thought the flash was the wheel hitting a bit of flint mixed in with the concrete..
Until I looked at the rim....  Hang on.. That's the sort of mark only an electrical arc could make!

The flash was not flint, it was the rim cutting through my extension lead!!!

Anyway, have a pic of a nice clean wheel rim...  It was soon given a couple of coats of red oxide followed my some grey primer before putting the new tyres on.

Here's how she looked by the end of today.. Not much left to do

Great pictures Alan, I think me and Iain both were too excited at the time to even consider taking any pictures. I have
to admit it at least I had one of the nicer, more unique bolens ride with the horses, a very cool machine which I look
forward to see Iain getting up and running.

I had an amazing weekend, a really great adventure that I will never, ever forget.

Absolutely, that's because they are Bolens

Two, maybe three have lots of potential. They are the two funky coloured ones (blue and yellow) and a white one with no
hood. The others have potential but will need a fully and complete restoration and a couple are parts only. All have
something seized. As I start to get them organised I will post some post some detailed pictures.

The Bolens we brought back with all the Wheelhorse's, I put into my workshop as it was getting too late on Sunday to think
of somewhere else to put it. My workshop now has a very unpleasant smell, not sure if that has anything to do with the rats
nest we found under the tractor or if one of those Wheelhorse's peed on it in fright, thinking it was going to get a Glasgow
handshake during the journey. The cast front on that tractor could do a lot of harm

You have to admit that in the one before last picture that Bolens looks fantastic compared to all that red stuff

Thanks for posting the pictures Alan. You did a great job of the pictures and masked the horrible weather we had on Friday
    and the rain on Sunday.
