  1. I've not had too many problems with O&R's (apart from two parts hedge trimmers that were badly packed, carb snapped off on one) & shipping, but some do have dented tanks, can't say I noted whether they were like that before I got them. @JUST O&R has shown how they can be repaired if needed. Also had a nice early engine where a customs worker opened the box with the biggest knife they could find and put several horrid scratches on the starter housing, this had survived over 55 years in near perfect condition too. By the way some sellers even don't read messages requesting them to pack things properly, had this recently with a pair of HP (Hewlett Packard) items, they put them in a box about the same size as the items, the small meter was placed on top the larger one, it arrived with a nice dent in the top of the large one the same shape as the small meter. It took me best part of half a day to carefully dismantle it (including removing a CRT) to straighten the internal frame, back & covers, thankfully it still works, but I noticed this week it can't be stacked with other test gear as the side frames are also bent. These frames are die cast same as O&R parts so can't be straightened easily without risking cracking or snapping them. Another non O&R one (few months back) a seller used the worst box filling material I've ever seen, many thousands of tiny polystyrene balls, these othered no protection from the heavy item moving about in the box during international shipping, plus they take forever to clean up & dispose of afterwards. Of course it arrived with a broken off die-cast handle (part of the side frame), I've lost count of the number of times this has happened. The replacement frame is currently in the round-tuit pile awaiting machining to match the original. David
  2. Have a closer look, the engine serial number is different, slightly less rust on the steel bits, no air filter and a bent foot. It's a second one, not so 'rare' after all then??? David
  3. Ouch , I hope you have complained, was it poorly packaged? Also is it just me or is that tank shorter than usual? Edit: it's probably just the angle the picture was taken from (not shorter). David
  4. I saw that one a while ago last time we were discussing Mono chainsaws but forgot to post about it, the second saw is labelled Super Safari Power on decal and was probably sold with other brand names (same as the 13A engined version). Also the first one dates from 1971 not 1973, 20A273 is the engine spec. David
  5. Some people post their ad's for O&R's in the forum buy/sell section, others post in the O&R section, I can see why it got missed, but at least you know now. Not odd at all, it was cost cutting towards the final years of production (most common after they became AEP). It's quicker to assemble then spray, than to paint the parts individually, this is still the way some manufacturers paint their engines. This also reduces the amount of parts stock/inventory needed, don't need separate part numbers for each color of each part. Of course it's your choice how to repaint if you decided too, we can take our time and make sure the paint stays on as well. David
  6. All the later tools from AEP are spray painted over nearly everything too. This is in the general for sale section of the forum, hopefully he will update us if it has been sold. David
  7. If you need to match slightly faded paint, then a car body shop should be able to mix some to match & put it in a rattle can for you. David
  8. Yes the original starter would have been sprayed green same as most of the parts, by the time this was made replacement starter housings were only available in that beige color, whoever replaced it never bothered to paint it green and lost some of the original starter fillister head screws. So how much is it then? David
  9. I have seen similar looking decals on the Meier Line chainsaws, both a Mark I & Mark II version, but no Mark V yet. David
  10. The Krestronics and a few of the others from the 'unknown' thread have engines from the earliest batch of O&R's, so it's not surprizing that not much has survived. David
  11. I thought @usedtoolman might have machined a mould to make those spark-plug caps. If you need a later style cap then Tecumseh part no. #610118 is the same, just make sure it's an original one and not a later version (with same part no.) before buying, been there bought the wrong one got the t-shirt. David
  12. The frame for the Krestronics Charge-R-Lite was in the unknown applications thread, we still haven't seen a complete one. David
  13. That tank looks like new now, excellent repair. Are those modified spark-plug/screwdriver tools that come with engine powered garden tools? David
  14. There are a couple of generators from smaller companies that haven't turned up yet, the Krestronics Charge-R-Lite and the Nobco Power Beam, but this is neither of those, it could have had a band with the name & ratings like the TT generators. David
  15. Very nice , there is nothing wrong with using the replacement coil, that is exactly what would have been fitted if one had failed in the past. Did the replacement coil fit the starter housing OK? I found out that an older coil doesn't fit a newer housing. Did you get the original insulator cap for the spark-plug when you bought the engine? David
  16. If it is home-made then someone must have spent quite a while machining those housings, the engine (Model K) is the same as used on the Champ generators. Question is did anyone buy it? David
  17. Just had a quick look at completed listings on ePay.com and found this strange looking O&R generator. The labelling for the generator output looks a bit homemade, as well as having the switch to select between 115V & 12V (instead of having a separate low voltage connector), the generator housing looks nicely made. David
  18. According to the 1971 Series 13A price list (special types), engine Type 216 has a 1700 R.P.M. single reduction gearbox with centrifugal clutch. It looks very similar to the Type 195 (H-III) but with the fuel/gas tank fitted on the opposite side to normal (i.e. below the carb), the Type 216 uses fuel/gas tank part number #A-32-30 with bracket #97-12. David
  19. Nice find, looks in need of a good clean and as usual the starter mechanism needs repairing. Apart from the air cleaner assembly I can't see anything else missing in the above picture. David
  20. The engine with gearbox is a Type 216, as mentioned in the compressor parts list available in the sticky thread. The parts list/instructions can be found in the above post, as well as the manuals "sticky" thread. Does anyone have the missing page??? the compressor diaphragm replacement instruction ends abruptly with "When this valve becomes......", the pages are numbered 9 for the instructions & 11 for the parts list. David P.S. I've merged the two compressor threads
  21. I've corrected the ePay link as it wasn't working. That looked nice and a reasonable price too, but neither a 1HP or CIII engine , it's actually a 3/4HP Compact I engine. David
  22. Parts diagrams for the gear case models from 1964 have been cleaned up, turned into a PDF and added to the manuals 'sticky' thread. Note: there may be slightly different parts used in earlier or later gear-cases, for example alloy gears in earlier models, the flat 'D' shaft used for the later clutch (instead of tapered shaft) and updated bearings. I've only just noticed part of drawing for the clutch assembly has a bit of the print missing, I checked and the original (below) is the same. David
  23. That looks very nice now and it's great to see the original paintwork in such good condition too. David
  24. Looking nice, I'm surprized they weren't polished up like that on the Chromer chainsaw @Webhead has. David
  25. I've edited my last post as the Type 196 has a back-shaft with flat. I have two pages from 1964 covering older gearboxes, it's too late tonight to add them to the forum. David
