Fix'em all reacted to beardyrich in Gemini restoration
Following a recent offer of a free Westwood Gemini, I've stripped it down to it's bare bones and managed to get it back to a reasonable condition.
I needed to purchase some new parts like ignition coil, HT lead and new NGK spark plug. Starter recoil assembly with rope and handle and new engine gaskets of course (in particular the correct thickness head gasket). The cylinder head was de-coked, cylinder bore de-glazed, inlet and exh valves lapped in and valve clearances adjusted to spec. Ignition timing reset by finding true TDC with a dial gauge and degree disc on the crankshaft. Zenith carb cleaned inside and out with carb cleaner and jets cleaned with compressed air. Similar for the fuel tank with a new fuel pipe fitted. The 'gloop' in the chaincase was removed as far as possible and refilled with new oil. Unfortunately, the chaincase is sealed for life though I would have liked to get inside and give it a proper clean and renew the axle shaft seals. Everything torque tightened where I could find the figures and finally primed and painted in rattle can engine enamel. Stickers from Titch at Machinery Decals, which are great. It started 2nd pull and the carb adjusted once warmed-up. Looking forward to using it when I get my allotment. Photos below...
Here's the completed machine...

Fix'em all got a reaction from factory in Chug-a -saw (sold)
Don't leave it too long Paul. The seller has someone interested in buying all the saws (about 8-10) . He is a dealer who will strip them all & sell as spares. They are mostly old Homelite & Danarm saws, so as spares are virtually non existent in the UK, that is a lucrative business

Fix'em all got a reaction from pmackellow in Chug-a -saw (sold)
I have made an offer for the 2 saws & he seems ok with that, but I think he wants collection in person & he is about 3 hours drive from me. I only want the other saw so the Chug a saw would be available. The pull start cover is missing but the engine is free & did run when he first bought the saw.

I was looking at another chainsaw & also came across this Chug -a Saw which I believe is Ohlson & Rice & looks in good order. If I was able to get this too (& he has already had a decent offer on it,) is it of interest. This is in the UK

Hi all .
Today Saturday we put the Engine back on my Monro tiller Series 2 , followed by the newly refurbished hubs and also new tyres and tubes .
A good degrease was needed to remove years of grime and dirt , which revealed the machines lovely original colour and even some of the transfers
All round this machine is turning out to be a little cracker

Fix'em all got a reaction from Stormin in Homelite C_51
Picked up this 1960s saw last weekend. Will try to get it running when I get some time. Appears to be a very rare saw especially in the UK. Not sure if Alain has one of these in his vast collection

Fix'em all got a reaction from HeadExam in Danarm Chainsaw starting issue
Finally got around to looking at this and picked up a second hand Condenser with the right fixing and dimensions. Cleaned the points & wired it back up as it was originally but still no spark. First thought was the Condenser was duff, but I did think something looked odd when I cleaned the points, so I whipped the flywheel off again. The metal strap that tensions the points was earthing out where the wiring from the coil joins it. I put a small piece of roofing felt between it and now have a lovely spark. It now starts & runs lovely, so it was the Atom module that was causing it to over advance the timing. The previous owner probably didn't spot the earthing issue, so fitted the Atom module & created an even bigger problem.

Fix'em all reacted to Stormin in "Found this", she said.
SWMBO came home from her evening walk round the block with our neighbour. "We've found this", she said. Showing me an old kitchen tap. "It would look nice by the pond".
Anyway, after some thought and scratting about, I came up with the feature below.
That should get me some Brownie points.

Fix'em all reacted to HeadExam in Latest Chainsaw Collection Video
I still have 3 saws in the mail, will arrive soon, I'm near close to 50 saws in just over two years. All these are auto oiler direct drive models with manual override made between 1965 and 1985.

That yellow box looks like an electronic ignition module to me. Apart from that I can't help. Sorry!
Alain (Headexam} may know as he has a considerable chainsaw collection.

Fix'em all reacted to Wristpin in Astra Rotavator
Actually a lot of companies do get upset and spend a lot of money protecting their trademarks. In the early 1960s my first job on leaving college was with the Caterpillar Tractor Company and part of my product familiarisation was reading all the trade magazines, noting all the use of the word caterpillar with a small c as a description of a crawler tractor or track . The authors / publishers were then sent a snotty letter pointing out the error of their ways.
When I created my former company's web site I used the word Strimmer and even though acknowledging that it was B&D's trade mark I received a three page letter demanding that it was removed immediately - or else!!
Now, where's my Biro - sorry, ball point.
