Thanks for your advice. I will check all of these items at the weekend. The mower is old and i have no history of it (recently obtained for a good price :-)) I think I will take off the complete system from the carb connection all the way back to the tank to make sure it is all clear. While doing so I'll throw on a new filter too as I have no idea if/when it was last changed.

Yep looks nice, I just thought British racing green would contrast well with the red and the wood

After seeing CNews fantastic mower project it got me thinking...

I had a spare O&R engine in stock and a very sad looking Nash Boadicea mower with a tired JAP 34 on it...

It's not finished yet, just a bit of fun using what bits I have in stock...

I had this '75 Raider 10 trans lying about. So this morning, being at a loose end, I decided to check it out. First thing first, check the oil. No dipstick of course so stuck a rod down the filler/level hole. Nothing! Dry as a bone. Also nothing would turn. Drive shafts or pulley that was still on. Pulley can off quite easily with the aid of a 3 leg pulley. Much to my surprise.
Next split the cases. They took a bit of persuading to part, but eventually did so. What a mess.

Every bearing is seized. As I most likely never use it, I don't think it's worth replacing them and rebuilding cost wise.

hi all, new guy here. Recently bought this W11 gazelle on a lockdown whim. Was bought as a runner, but with faulty gearbox struggling to engage gears/reverse. Engine was spluttering, & deck isn't in great condition. Chap said it came with his house in 1991 from previous owners, and he has been using it ever since until it stopped reversing and couldn't get it fixed. Comes with 32" cutting deck (rotten but free moving) & rear wheel driven grass collector (working fine). If anyone could tell me the version i have here, that would be useful?

Firstly i needed to make it drive. Inspected the gear linkages and found that the swivel where the shifting rod attaches to the box was siezed, so as it swung, the rod was bending. It had bent so much it no longer reached reverse. As i was disassembling it the rod snapped. My solution was to cut off where the thread started, dye it to 1.25mm pitch (and retap the swivel - were both 1mm pitch), then using some stainless steel bits rebuild it all. Now shifts into all gears without fault. Managed to snap the actual gear handle off too, so had to weld that back on too, plus lost the spring for the lift up reverse action. Not an issue to me.

Next i looked at the engine. It was in a sorry state, covered in crap, and hadn't been serviced in this century. I stripped and cleaned the carb and air filter/box (looked like it had been dipped in grease), put in a new sparkplug, flushed petrol tank (sediment in bottom), and have started to clean the rest up.... starts and runs beautifully smooth now.

this is far as i've got. Engine needs to be properly cleaned with scrubbing brushes which will then also have the black trim bits resprayed. I'm working on the deck currently, replacing blades, patching the deck, then will paint in something bombproof.

Otherwise going for a different look, breaking tradition. I'm going to be stripping down the old paint and respraying gloss black, with metalwork gunmetal silver, putting LED headlights on, and chrome effect wheel rims. A friend is currently plasma cutting out some custom signage for it as i will lose the stickers. Figure its value is mainly in the fact it starts and cuts, any preservation is a blessing over its current state.

    Updates to follow....

Assuming that by gearbox you are referring to the chain case , the answer is yes, BUT look at the attached IPLs and it would appear that there are two designs of chain case . The one specifically for the De Luxe appears to just have a felt washer as an oil seal and looks as though it can be accessed by removing a circlip and a steel washer, but if the bearing has failed that could be more complicated as it appears to be a welded chain case assembly and a special bearing puller will be needed.

Hello all some pictures of my new Gutbrod which was bought just before lockdown and after many weeks of cleaning, and a lot of TLC, and some welding  we fitted the loader and Bucket , and also the double rear wheels yesterday . I think its a superb bit of kit , just the rear wheel  weights to be fitted .
The wiring needed sorted out but it has another feature I like the very hard to come by hour meter in the dash it doesnt get any better hope you like its another tractor for Gutbrod Scotland

The whole consists of two parts. The first part is secured to the engine by a small screw, and the second part is screwed to the tractor by the muffler. Both are inserted one into the other and fastened with a clamp.
    This can be easily removed.
