    Winter draws nigh!

13kva , split over 3 phases. Not the most civilised machine compared with modern "quiet" units but very economical on red diesel and allows life to carry on uninterrupted. The only thing that causes a change of engine note is the ordinary domestic 800 watt micro wave when it pulses. no doubt someone with an electrical "ology" can explain that. Control panel

    Project "Why Not"

Thanks Mark.. Thanks Charlie, it's looking even more the part after the past two days.. And what a two days it has been.. This sudden house move lark has slowed things down a bit but over the past couple of days I have got the top chassis rail tacked in place..

    Can't resist. Ransomes!

Fetched this home from darkest South East London this afternoon - not far from HMP Belmarsh! Looks like it's been exposed to the elements for a while but is basically OK. Never been a great fan of the Briggs / Marquis combination so once it's all running I may retrofit a Sloper.

Hi all I've had a few hours in the shed today and been fitting making engine mountings for the Briggs and Stratton vangard power unit here is what I've done so far I had to alter the pulley sizes because the original one was to big so I went and found a smaller one , which is more suitable !

Hi all I've had a little play today fitted a new air filter pipe and throttle cable plus a new lever. I've started playing with the exhaust just too see what it looks like etc. but not sure yet. Im thinking something like I have done but with a silencer like a tractor one but all of it made out of stainless.

    Project "Why Not"

Thanks Paul, it is getting there.. Slowly but moving in the right direction I will do when I can... It's just getting a lift over.. No Pete for a couple of weeks now. Thanks James.. It was the only way I could think of finding the center point without putting an axle back in.. And they are still a bit too long to fit Why Not now officially has lower chassis rails... Only tacked together and in need of a few cross members but they are there all the same The angles look a bit strange in the photo's but the rails kick out and the up to reach the axle..

I had a Wolseley self propelled mower years ago. If I remember correctly it look very much like that one in the photo's. The engine went bang and I scrapped it. But. the complete rear axle is still up at the farm. I can check if you like?

Hello, sorry to barge in , but I saw the post about a Wolseley Clearway, would any one be able to tell me if this is older Wolseley Clearway without the Hydrostatic drive? I bought this machine about 25 years ago and it had, had a hard life before I bought it. After many good years of service the differential packed up and in the process of my friend re engineering the parts it got thrown out! Does any one know who made the diff and is there one lying around somewhere? For the past 10 years it was left out in the elements under a hedge until last week when I decided to bring it back to life, the engine and pulleys etc all worked with the minimal of fuss. Without the drive it must be the heaviest push mower in existence, that said I did push it into a very wild overgrown piece of garden and it cut down 4 foot tall undergrowth with ease the date on the engine is 1970 I think. All help gratefully received.

Sorry for delay but here are 2 pics which may help. I have had the unit off the mower and there is no ID as far as I can see.Nearest I can find is on e-bay a Craftsman fan but it is not the right blade pitch. Fan fits on the end of the toothed pulley wheel in first pic and top of belt which goes round the pulley moves right to left. If that makes any sence! Any help appreciated.
