    Can't resist. Ransomes!

Making progress. The cutting cylinder and bottom blade are de-rusted, painted, sharpened and reassembled with new reaction springs and felt seals. The old springs appear to have been attacked with an angle grinder; can't see why as the new ones are far from coil bound with the reground cylinder and refaced bottom blade. The rear roller had spent the weekend in the diesel tank which had done its job and the roller didn't put up too much of a fight. The grooves on these roller sections are good so no tedious re-cutting required! Chassis and grass box etc off to "blasters" for stripping and epoxy coating. Unfortunately they are busy with all sorts of interesting things so wont see them back till mid next week but there is the engine to strip and re-paint. Might even tidy the workshop!

had a good think on the wiring - as it's all from scratch - here's the first scribble of a diagram then back to the rear drive - things have had to change over time. Need space to tension a belt as the rear axle now has a lot of articulation. Here's the idlers in place, waiting for the pulleys to arrive. The string lets me see how much tension is created by the axle pivoting. (giving away my secrets) and finally the calculator giving me the sprocket and pulley sizes

    Winter draws nigh!

13kva , split over 3 phases. Not the most civilised machine compared with modern "quiet" units but very economical on red diesel and allows life to carry on uninterrupted. The only thing that causes a change of engine note is the ordinary domestic 800 watt micro wave when it pulses. no doubt someone with an electrical "ology" can explain that. Control panel

    Cut and Shut welding trolley

Evening all, as you know I've now moved from Arc welding to Mig welding, and very happy with the Mig I am The trouble is with the welder plonked on the remains of an office chair and the gas bottle tied to my blasting cabinet so I stood less chance of knocking it over it didn't make my welder very portable or even easy to shift around the shack! So what I need is something with wheels to move it all around on... Enter a tube frame.. This frame used to hold a Kohler powered hydraulic road drill unit.. Nigel has the hydraulic side, Chris picked up the engine today, which leaves me with the frame, all be it a bit on the wide side.. Not a problem.. Out came the grinder as 8 1/2 inches was chopped out.. Chopped As I didn't have any of the right size tube to sleeve it with, I had to use some bits of U shaped steel and lot's of G clamps etc to hold it together for welding.. Have a strange ghostly photo of welding in action.. I don't think the end of this axle is going anywhere It was while sitting with a coffee looking at the narrowed trolley thingy that I thought it might be a bit unstable with the wheels not that far apart! Some more cutting and welding later not only were the wheels outboard but I'd also moved them back a few inches.. And that Ladies and Gents is as far I I've got with the welding trolley today.. More to come tomorrow..
