When at Newby Hall last year, we were camped about 1/4 mile from where our exhibits where. Having three and only being able to drive one at a time, walking back and forth got to be a bit of a bind. So for this year something had to be done to save the poor old legs. They're not as young as they used to be. It's the rigor mortis setting in early. So this morning I had a scrat about. One Westwood front axle and wheels, some 2" box section, surplus ladder racks and the result you can see below. Still ramps to make yet.

I looked into making one a few years back, i had one i used for cars but oviously it was to big so i ended up making a small recovery crane

A friend gave me a orbital air powered disc sander and I am going over the tin on the 1556 with it. I've got a few small spots to ding out and a few to putty over then I will be ready for sanding/building primer. I really like this type of primer because it really makes the surface look new again. The decals took the most time to remove, after using a heat gun to remove the top layer, I had two more layers of clear to remove. I think I need some tips on removing decals. I'm doing a lot of hand sanding as well and will move to a finer grit soon. I hope to have the 1556 looking as if it did when it was the 27th one built and rolling off the assembly line.

There really weren't paint codes for Bolens, mostly names, but I had the paint custom matched. I can give you the formula after I pick it up. This color is one of there toughest to find or match. its not the almond or white they had used in the past, made from around 1970-1972 its a greenish/grayish/white, it was used on most all the tractors of that era even the small frames and large frames. I use the Rust-o-leum Regal Red for the wheels and deck, it is a tad lighter, but anytime you can find a premix really close it will hold up better, especially in Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue, or Green, the Off Whites aren't too bad for color and gloss retention because there is not much colorant in them and as long as you add a little hardener to any of them they last years and years. The was no primer on most of these Garden tractors, just paint and Bolens after 1970 used a powder coat epoxy

At long last, due to family bereavements, I have loaded my 1254 to go to Dorset to a friend (Daniel, aka Robins) to fit a new wiring loom in it and to do some carb fettling. When I got it back in early autumn I pumped up the tyres and greased everywhere and unlocked the diff lock to enable her to move around freely. Today, she moved from the back of the garage for the first time and onto the back of the Hilux. She's really is a solid bit of kit and worth the effort to revive her. I got a new fuel tank, battery tray, belts, air filter and other items to aid her rejuvenation. She will be dropped off tomorrow morning. Be good to have a catch up with Daniel and see how his WHs are faring.

Well, just finished up a new project ready for our first show! Not much wrong with it, cleaned it up, repainted and sharpened and another little Conquest lives to mow again. With added WWII style "nose art" We are showing our Atco Scythe, the Atco 17" Lightweight, this Conquest and the electric Ladybird, along with a couple of vintage chainsaws, at the Launceston Steam and Vintage Rally tomorrow (sat 23rd May). Well the C-121 is now up and running. Still mods to do, but they will get done in time. Bit different to how it looked almost 12 months ago. All that's left now is the arrival of the stickers. Also new tyres when funds allow.

Very nice find Chris. you'll have to be careful if you give these your usual shiny paintwork, Your likely to have seagulls trying to mate with their reflection when you use them! (that's the excuse I give for not painting mine + if they don't shine, the pikey's are less likely to spot them.) These are my discs, part of the 80's wheelhorse 'implement pack': discs; plough and cultivator. I only have the discs and cultivator, I need to fit my 'stubble' plough unit to the frame, all the different implements fit the same beam, you change over the hitch mounting to angle the plough.

Quick picture of my 1054 and a couple of my other tractors, assuming I have got the hang of how to post pictures on this forum. Beware one Bolens is not enough!!! I forgot to mention that I have a good selection of Bolens spares, that I have found alternative sources for some of the parts and both of the parts suppliers I mentioned also sell secondhand parts. Looking at the pictures of your 1254, it looks like the lights are incorrect and you are missing part of the lift lever and fuel tank. Iain
