    Project "Why Not"

Thanks Dibnah, not only is it diarrhea brown, some parts are now "gut rot grey" Well chaps, I'm sick of fillering and even though it's far from perfect it will do for now.. Just the flange thingy in the middle to sort then it can be brown oxided The slots on the front of the bonnet have now been widened.. They need a little tidy up but they look so much better for being wider. And some wire mesh came my way yesterday.. It will look good sprayed mat black and tucked behind the slots

This is a vintage agricultural weekend held at Pestalozzi village in Sedlescombe Sussex ( tn33 0uf ). I've been going to this show since it started a few years ago and last year i was asked to take over the Horticultural section,it was very short notice and didn't have time to promote it. This year I'm looking for exhibitors to support me with this show. I've secured a good spot in the middle of the site and there will be a working area that is useable all day, there will be an arena display on both days so whatever you want to do with your machine nows your chance, This is a working weekend so whatever your interest its there, there will be plenty of stalls and a silent auction as well as live music, beer tent and plenty of food. There's free camping on a nice flat field just a short walk away. So come and have a fun weekend if you want to work your machine or just chill out, this will be a good show with your support, pm me for an entry form NOW

    New sign

Been after this sign for a few years now, the other day the boss said I could have it previously wanting £1000 for it! Rutherfords were a large agricultural engineers here in the borders manufacturing grain handling equipment, sheds ect, established around 1850 it went into liquidation in 1995. It has several branches, one survived in earlston however it shut down about a year ago. Anyway this sign has survived the building going through two sales and nobody removed it, it was obvious there was others around it but these were long gone. Will look good once the sparrow crap Is cleaned off, or do I leave it?

    Project "Why Not"

Thanks Max, it does This morning was like an archeological dig... Once I'd shoveled 6 inches of white filler dust away I found a bench!! To celebrate I put a couple of wheels on WN to have a look... They soon came off for a second coat of paint. The second coat of IH white lightened the wheels up, make them look less creamy.. Don't be fooled by the photo, the paint is nowhere near as smooth as it looks. Oh, and the bonnet now has a mat black grill/mesh thingy

    C-120 refurb.

I got the trailer stub axles I've been waiting for this morning. So this afternoon I was able to start the front wheel conversion. First thing was to modify the stub axles. The spigot on the end was cut down to 1/2" long then bored out 3/4" by 1" deep. Next remove the existing front wheels and modify the axles. These were shortened to 3/4". The modified stubs were located on the cut down axle and wheels put on to see how things looked. Things looked ok so axles removed and stubs welded to them. Then everything put back together. Still to paint, grease and adjust, but I think it doesn't look bad. Though I did find the left hand wheel has a slight run out.

A bit late I know but you definitely want ags and in my personal I'd go with wheel weights, if it's a tractor that ploughs all the time then you can ballast them, but if you are doing other jobs such as mowing the good thing about wheel weights are that they are removable because you don't always want the weight. Just an idea. If you are struggling to find wheel weights John Deere make ones that fit the same rim as a wheel horse they are green but I'm sure you could spray then if it bother you that much! Let us know what you go for. Tom

You definitely want R1 tread AG tyres. I would fill the tyres as well. Here in The Colonies we have a product called Rim Guard. It's a beet juice derivative and weighs 11lbs/gal. as opposed to the water based fluids that are roughly 8 lbs/gal. You might check with the various agricultural dealers and see if there is something similar in the UK. If you use a water based fluid I'd recommend the winter type window washer fluid, and fill them to the valve stem with the stem at the 12:00 position. You want some airspace in the tyre to give a bit of a flex and cushion. If you fill them 100% the tractor will ride like it has steel wheels. There is another option as well, and that's a Calcium Chloride solution. It will had a lot of weight, but I would avoid it like the plague. It's very corrosive and will eat up the wheels from the inside.
