Finally given in and joined the Bolens boys..

Hi all, Thought I'd post up a picture of my new purchase, picked it up today and ended up buying a power hack saw, pillar drill and some other bits as well! It runs but does need a carb overhaul and a good service. Tom

Finally found an XLH-1 Harvester, or should I say "one fell in my lap". A really nice man from Michigan (Steve Adams) found this XL tool thread on MoM while researching it and contacted me through a PM. Turns out he is not a collector and would like it to go to someone who will get it running and enjoy having it in a collection. Steve also took the time to go back to the place he found it and look for the extension pole and the tree jaw that goes with it. He found them in a barn and is sending those as well. These are very rare and even more so for a complete machine. I'm pretty excited about having one in the collection and look forward to getting it running to test it out.

Nice looking Estate Keeper. I'm guessing that it's the 7HP version, built in 1964-66. Looks to be pretty much original except for the seat. Here's a pic of my EK7 so you can see how the seat should be mounted.

    Bendy back on duty

After what seems a good month on blocks. I finally completed the temporary engine transplant. The donor C-161 had been under a tarp in the garden for 3 years and I gave the carb and fuel pump a good clean when I bolted it on. The pulley was swapped as for some reason its a larger diameter than normal. After a few turns and a bit of choke it was back running As it seems to get dark here at 3pm all my pics are in the dark! Here's hauling some timber down for the fire.

    Holme 1940's weekend

A nice day spent today at the Holme 1940's weekend near Peterborough Although billed as a 1940's weekend the organisers were not that strict on age although there was some very nice WW2 machinery on show as well as people in period dress etc Here's some photos starting with our JALO display...

Yes, it's made to shake the tree branches to release the fruit or nuts. Bet it also shakes the operator so hopefully it doesn't shake my nuts off when I give it a go

Dark at 3pm? You tykes shouldn't be so tight. Get your hands in your pockets and put more money in the meter.

    A VERY DISAPPOINTED SHOWMAN.

After finding his way back to John's place today, the Showman's eye's lit up when he spotted my Sears GT16, one of the first "wrecks" to emerge from the undergrowth a few years ago. When told that there was no RED colour option available, his jaw dropped and he went off muttering something about sticking to Wheel Horses and maybe the red Bolens. Just can't please some people.

    Amp Champ generator

Here another Champ that I have added to my collection, its a 12V only version made for the US military. Unusually the engine serial number has been ground off, I don't know if all the ex-military ones were. Since taking the pictures I have removed the incorrectly fitted NGK long-reach spark-plug and fitted a Champion UY6, this isn't the first time I've had a seller fit a new plug of the wrong type just before they shipped it. Amp Champ generator

Here's an older version Amp Champ model 4750. Came without an engine so it's not technically correct but they all look the same to most people anyway. The generator's cast housing is heavier and thicker compared to the newer versions and it also has a rough surface from the sand casting. Bottom bends in the stand are facing out verses facing in, like the newer versions.
