    Downsizing in Metalwork

Looking to finish this 'Mothballed' 1 inch Scale design TE project while I still only need the occasional use of a weak Magnifying Glass !., so it's top of the jobs list now. I've been recently making loads of small Nuts and Bolts for parts that were temporarily fitted. Smallest size is 0.0669" (1.62mm) AF Steel hexagon rod with 12BA thread. The metal plate in the Pic is one of 3 Oil Lamp brackets that require these small bolts-

If you have deep enough pockets.... They were simply lifted from the side of the sand bed into the bed using a crane, that's all, never made to go up ramps or anything else.

    Implement shed.

For sometime I've been thinking of building an implement shed. Today I decided to make a start. I had some decking boards and 2 x 3 I salvaged when we sold the caravan. Few measurements taken and I decided I'd enough to make the frame work. In between another job I was doing, I got the side frames done. 8ft x 5ft with a 3" fall.

Believe me it's a beast, especially when you engage the auger! It drives and steers really well though. Very impressive bit of engineering. I haven't even got the rear conveyor on yet it's 8ft. The trouble is the front auger only has about 1 1/2" ground clearance, it would be impossible to drive onto a trailer, I am coming to the realisation that I will have to move it on to someone more equipped, the trouble is putting a price on it, it's the only complete one known to exist. I am looking into raising the front auger without cutting anything, maybe using plates.

Well after a fair bit of maneuvering I got the front auger into place!

    Implement shed.

Good work Norm, I bet you glad of the extra space it's created in your garage I know it's not, but in your last photo it looks like the board on the left is running through the ladder.. Built in steps to make it easier to get on the roof?

    Three Happy Horses.

The Work Horse, C-125, has been a bit off colour lately. Suspect dirt in the carb. So today off with the float bowl and my suspicion was correct. Some strange foreign particles floating about in there. Cleaned and re-fitted, then started up and did the hand over venturi trick to clear the jets. Re-set the carb for idle then full throttle and the old thing is running like a good un. I then decided to check over the C121 and C81 as they are going to R.P.T. and Biddenden shows. They are both now in the peak of fitness. Here they are, snug as bugs in a rug.

You would be right Norm... Which is why I made this Not perfect but it should help the gasses flow in the right direction now Getting the down pipes from the engine to the 2 into 1 thingy was interesting, lot's of measuring, bending, welding and trimming a few mm's of here and there until it all fitted together.. The exhaust system is split into 3 parts so I can actually get it in and out of the frame.. Here's the front part on the bench getting fully welded up.. A couple of little holes like this to fill or it will be louder than I think it's going to be... Quite loud I'm guessing The rear section with the two shortened silencer boxes and some 1 into 2 pipework.. Here's the completed system, me thinks it looks quite mad

    Downsizing in Metalwork

Now that my Username has turned green again, I can post a few progress pics. Much of the work is hidden like machining Keyway slots in the shafts, but finished the Damper Rod Control Lever and the Oil Boxes for the Axle bearings- Set the positions of Gears on the Selector and drilled the quadrant for the locking pin. Finished the Coal Bunker Division Plate with the addition of a Sluice Door (sorry it's out of focus, but the depth of field is shallow)- ( Tiny Caps made for the various 'Oiler Cups' (used an old Flint Lighter Wheel for the miniature Knurling)- Just 2 more to make for the Second Shaft and trim the Gear Cover for access- Obtained the Pressure Gauge (0-100psi). real Watchmaker stuff this is, it is only 1/2" diameter (12.7mm)!. Closest to scale that is possible and still work properly- Just finishing off some Steering modifications to the front end generally known as the 'Spud Ring' and Pan which is another deviation from the original design- It's making a nice change playing with the Machines/Tooling and making the parts, but still loads to do.

    Implement shed.

As the grass on the green was still very wet this morning, got a little more done to the implement shed. Framework up, then off to the local wood yard for a couple of sheets of ply and a roll of felt. By mid afternoon I had an implement shed with a waterproof roof. Next some battens for the roof and boards for the sides and doors. Also some guttering for the front. Got the green and verges mowed and swept with the lawn sweeper this evening. A nice productive day.

That junction will play havoc with the gas flow I think.

Thanks.. Will be good to get them working under steam again. I'm sure you'll do all the safety checks first with old engines. Often the rubber seals like on the Sight Glass are perished and suspect the Seals/Glands on the Piston, Valve and Regulator Rods may need checking. They were likely packed with Graphited Yarn. Not sure how/if Norm's Dad's Engine had the Steam Oil administered for the Piston and Valve?, as I can't see a lubrication system in the pics. Hope the book helps. Some engines like to have a mix of Coal and Charcoal, or just the latter to produce good heat. Also the Grate gaps size can be the cause, or so I have read!. Done a little more on mine. Made up all the Pipe work and fittings for the Water Pump-
