Starting the tear down of the Landscaper 600. Went ok for the most part but the main spindle won’t come free from the crankshaft. It has a single threaded screw that attaches it to the end of the crankshaft like most engines. It is really seized up on there. I tried all the usual tapping tricks but still no luck. I also noticed that the entire spindle and crankshaft are super wobbly and loose. I’m hoping it’s not broken inside the engine. The bearings are most definitely shot, hopefully the shaft is not cracked. Not sure what to try next to get this spindle off. Definitely going to take some serious cleaning...

    Ohlsson & Rice: Home-built Mower-Trimmer

Ok, here’s the little project I’ve been working on for the last couple weeks. I’ve been wanting to make a small lawn mower/trimmer with an O&R and I had a nice 133 military engine that needed to find a home. Thanks to Terry@Just O&R, he was able to hook me up with the perfect vintage mower - it was exactly what I was hoping for. This one is a 14” Sensation, perfect size and design style for the O&R. It’s not 100% done yet but I couldn’t put off getting some photos posted. I’m still working on the actual trimmer concept and plan to go with more of a weed eater head set up instead of a mower blade. I plan to use the starter cup off a vintage Pioneer chainsaw and drill three holes so I can pass through some pre-cut Trimmer lines with end-stops. I’ll figure out a good way to secure the cup to the spindle shaft. I also added a stop button to the back plate similar to a few other O&R tools I have. I’m also finalizing a short throttle cable, doesn’t really need one but thought it might be nice. After a lot of hunting I ended up finding a cast aluminum boat chair pedestal that made the perfect adapter plate to mount the engine to the mower. I also had to swap out the normal Type 133 mount with one that has a couple more inches in height. This was needed to get the right clearance for the gas tank. Just a note, the early style Drillgine gas tanks don’t mount to the newer style engines and I had to make a couple slight mods to the casting on the case to get all the clearances to fit right. Here is the before and after...

Coolest thing that I've seen done with these engines to this point...the enthusiasm with O&R's is at it's peak and doesn't look like it will stop climbing for a while.

Hopefully not, I've taken lots of pictures during further disassembly to make sure I know where all the small parts go back. Here is the back of the powerhead with the coupling for the flexible drive, note this uses a larger than normal tank (the lid of this is currently seized on). Might be hard to see, but there are two long screws holding the cover in place. Those were removed along with the air cleaner, allowing the cover to be removed, the extension for the cylinder baffle plate is loose once the cover is removed. Note the stop button on the side of the cover, it contacts with the standard brass stop strip. Possibly the only O&R where they had to build the engine up in the middle of the casing, don't know what they were thinking. More to follow..... David

Apologies for joining the forum just to sell something, but having found myself in possession of this machine, I figured it belongs in the hands of an enthusiast, so here I am. This has been sitting unused in a garage for at least 25 years. I'm in Surrey, England, but I've listed on ebay with their global shipping program, so it can go to most destinations worldwide. Ebay listing here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274404438824 Previous forum thread about these machines here:

I checked on ebay.com, it wasn't showing GSP, they are pretty good at removing the option in restricted categories, but sometimes items get listed in the wrong category and the option does show, then the item can get seized. Also items that are too big or heavy will never get shipped abroad. Proper shipping companies have no problem with engines (drained of oil/fuel), chainsaws and radio valves. Edit: they don't like magnetos either, my Dad lost a working 1920's Eisemann twin magneto to them. David

Here is my K.C. Wiggins Champ Series 75 that I restored earlier this year, this is a 230V output version of the Champ generator made in Potters Hill, Felton, near Bristol. Be aware that forcing incorrect two pin plugs into these generators may break the plastic part of the sockets, resulting in the socket falling inside. I have seen several of these generators sold on ebay this year with broken sockets. I'm not sure what plug was supplied with these when new, but all my UK two pin plugs have a pin spacing that is too wide, I ended up modifying one with a Dremel to fit without causing damage. David

Post pictures of what is fitted to the cylinder as I may have the correct NOS gaskets. David

Success, got the spindle free from the shaft. With the crankshaft being so loose there was about 1/16” of play between the front face mounting plate and the back edge of the spindle. I notched a large washer and slid it into the gap. Then when I smacked the opposite end of the spindle it finally broke free.

Here you go Paul, these original decals are 1½ inches tall, the scan could do with cleaning up if you're going to have some made, I can email you the original high-res scan if that helps. David

    Only mad dogs.

Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun. Done a bit of clearing up for a neighbour. Cut a some sieves down a couple of weeks ago, with the C-81 and finger bar. Today my neighbour and I gathered them up ready to burn. Thought I'd give the Black Horse some exercise, as it hadn't been run for a couple of months at least. Was rather reluctant to start, but eventually we went next door with trailer in tow. In the field the Black Horse started acting up. Would run and idle fine, but if shut down would be hesitant to restart. Took it home and got the Sears/Roper for trailer duty. Lost count of the trailer loads, but quite a few. Photo's of last load.

HEY, that looks familiar. Certainly an interesting tool. Hope you don't need help on assembly as it's been a long time since taking it apart to ship.
