    OOP'S!

Hitched the rear discharge deck to the C-125 Wednesday, to give the green and verges a trim. To my surprise, I couldn't get the drive belt to tension properly. The mule drive adjuster was reaching it's limit before the belt was tight. It was fine last week. As I was in Carlisle yesterday I went to get a new belt. It had to be ordered but came today as promised. Now the standard size is 1/2" x 98", but as the used belt was so slack, I ordered a 1/2" x 97". So on the new belt went. Only that wouldn't tighten either. Oh sugar! Something somewhere is not right. Had a good look around. Lifted the deck. Lowered the deck. Twiddle this. Twiddled that. Had another look at the lift arm. A look at the Tach-o-Matic and..... Oh you thick b****r! The bar that holds the front of the deck wasn't located properly. It was lying flat on the deck, instead of being upright and the fork located where it should have been. Drop deck, release the Tac-o-matic, lift bar, lift deck, lock Tach-o-Matic, adjust belt and off we go a mowing. The times I've had that deck on and off over the years. Practically every time I mow for cleaning afterwards. How I missed the front bar wasn't located properly I don't know.

My Cub cadet had the same button and I ordered a similar one off ebay, not the one I bought but it looks like yours: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-New-Holland-Model-N-9N-Tractor-Starter-Switch-Foot-Operated-Push-Button-/222288087681?hash=item33c1670a81:g:vYUAAOSwal5YCO7r

Chris, the Bolens part number for the switch is 1713595 and the same switch is fitted to all round hood Bolens with electric start (600, 800, 900 and 1000). I don't think a geninue one can be bought anymore although I know that at least one of the Bolens part suppliers, Brian sells a replacement. Link to the part on his web site http://bolenspartsandsupplies.com/bolens-parts/1713595-bolens-push-button-starter-switch-fits-600-800-900-1000/ Iain

    Lathe fun

A small update for you all.. A quick test fit of the new 3hp motor showed that it would fit in the right place and even one of the bolt holes lined up which makes making an adaptor plate easy. Thank you Nigel for the thick tread plate. seven holes drilled and two captive threads welded on later... The adaptor bolted bolted on the lathe bench. The new motor bolted on but not tightened up as it needed to come back off to be re-wired to spin in the oposite direction. A big thank you to Sandhurst Mark for doing that for me on Friday. No photo's but yesterday the lathe was fired up for the first time in oh... Too long... I'm a happy chap
