    Wheel mod.

Bit more done now. Wheels all cleaned up over the last couple of days. Had to do it the hard way, as damp air and the need for a bigger compressor, didn't allow the use of the blast cabinet. Electric drill and rotary wire brushes. Not a bad job if I do say mesel'. The valve holes had to be opened out to allow for the tube valve. The centres were then treated to some filler, (NOT the cement, Chris), either side of the bands to do away with any sharp edges. Smoothed off then taped. I was going to prime them, but rain stopped play.
  2. You live and learn. Jonathan never told me that.
  3. I'll be down again. 2 WH's and a Sears plus anything else I can get on the trailer.
  4. Google Brinley ploughs. You can buy them new in the States last year. About £250 our money. One here on flea-bay went for really daft money. You could have imported one for less.
  5. A fair price would be in the hundreds not thousands. Johathan, (expeatfarmer), is the man to ask. I think he has one for sale on that auction site.
  6. Has a look of a Brinley. Google Brinley ploughs and compare.
  7. That's a grand job done there. The spiked wheel weights look great. Well done the both of you.
  8. Hi Aidan. You have one for grass cutting and one for towing your trailer. As for the Countax, one of the Scottish lads uses a Countax for ploughing with a home made plough. Does well. Have a look through the site at what others have done/made. You'll get plenty of ideas here.

    You've discovered my secret filler.

    Wheel mod.

The standard rear wheels on the C-121, (Black Horse), though fitted with ag tyres, are a little wide for ploughing. The earlier narrower wheels tend to be a bit hard to come by. I acquired a pair of 700 x 12 ag tyres off the Fife Pooman. These had come off a walk behind and practically new. Tubes with them as well. Bit narrow for the standard wheels, but as I had some spare wheels a plan was formed. People widen wheels, so how about going t'other way? Off to a local engineering firm with a pair of wheels. A week later I had six wheel parts and my wallet £20 lighter. Today I had some workshop time and started to build them up. Gavin who had machined them for me, had marked them up. So each half would match it's respective other half. The cut out centre pieces I cut through once to make a band that would hold the two halves in position. Yes, I know. I should have taken a photo. The band was placed round the two wheel halves and clamped in position. I only used one G clamp, as I only had one big enough and moved it round as I tacked the band in place. With both wheels done and the welds cleaned up a bit, the result is below. Not pretty I know, but they will be. Next job is to clean off the old paint. One job I really enjoy.
  11. Oh dear! The south will grind to a halt.
  12. Glad I don't have to drive anywhere in that blizzard.
  13. The title had me puzzled for a minute. I wondered why you wanted to spray foxes.
  14. 'Ow do, Jeff. Welcome to MOM.
  15. That's what I call a very satisfactory result. Also an engine sourced PDQ.
  16. About 6cwt at a guess. No bulk in it.
  17. Got some more done today after it stop raining. This is the strip I did by hand yesterday. Nearly to the drive gate. Little C-81 has been working like a good 'un. She looks a lot cleaner in the photo than she is. Drainage pipe in, covered with pea gravel, membrane on that and filled in. Rusty thinking, "Oh goody! Some nice soft earth to dig holes in".
  18. Unfortunately, where the path ends in front of the studio door, it tends to hold water after heavy rain. So the time has come when I have finally to do something about it. Today a start was made. Arranged with my mate Dunc for him to come over with his digger, so a drain could be installed. This would run the length of the front garden, across the front of the house to the drive gate. Dunc couldn't get over till afternoon, so I installed the grid at the path end and started to dig by hand. The soil removed was transported away with the C-81 and Saxon trailer. By the time Dunc arrived, I had dug the length of the house and shifted two trailer loads. Remembered a couple of photo's for the Showman. More to follow. Sorry about the photo quality. Rushed them to get Dunc back in the digger after he jumped out to pose.
