Heard from Eric today, looks like the gasket paper and NOS gaskets arrived ok. He said getting good measurements on those little paper gaskets is a real challenge so he might end up cutting a couple test versions out of thicker material for me to test for fit. Then if everything fits right he will cut the rest of them.

Man, that is awesome! Ya know Terry those brackets would be great for displaying these little engines. Keep the pattern and dimensions once you get it all figured out- I might buy a couple sets from you at some point. You’ve got quite the knack for metal fab!
Yeah I think next time it probably makes sense to have a roll shipped to him if this is going to be a common order item. He needs it cut to 12”x12” sheets so I cut up a bunch and flattened them as best I could. If they work ok for him we can always do more. I probably have a little bit left from the original partial roll I bought. I think I have enough cut and packaged to get a few sets for each of us. Last time he tried to cut this really thin paper he said it was a bit of a challenge, especially trying to keep it flat and positioned on the laser table. I threw a piece in when he made the last batch of diaphragms so I asked him to cut a couple diaphragm gaskets out of this stuff out of curiosity.
Been making some good progress on the fan this weekend. With all the corrosion it’s taking more time to clean every nit-picking screw and part. I’m having to repair or swap a few items here and there as well. I’m going to need a set of the induction case gaskets and the cylinders head gaskets before I can get the engine back together. The recoil was fun, had to find another reel and replace the cord, hoping the recoil spring still has some life.
I’m going to send the gasket paper and NOS gaskets, that John provided, out to Eric this week. I got everything as flat as I could so hopefully it’ll work in his laser. That really thin induction case gasket could pose some challenges but we will see what the gasket master can do for us.
I got a bunch of gasket paper cut yesterday evening and I’ve got it clamped between two sheets of plywood to try to flatten it more before sending it to Eric. Also haven’t heard back from him yet on how much $$$ I need to send for this project.
Still working on it. I haven’t had a chance to do anything to it this week but hopefully tomorrow I can get back after it. Still a lot of cleaning to do before I start putting the engine back together. I need to get this gasket project going with Eric as I’ll probably need some of those for this project.
I like that version with the Drillgine tank, pretty cool! I agree as well, I think the outboard looks better without the plastic cover and tank but as John notes, if it has the original better to keep it on there.

Thanks David! Of course I remembered those posts after spending the afternoon messing with the engine. Next time I’ll know better and think to check here first! That was just a dumb mistake on my part...
NOS gaskets are in the box I sent you with the vertical tank you needed. Also sent a piece of the baking paper I have. it's even the right color but might be too thin.

I got in late last night from a business trip and saw a package I think is the goody box from you. I’ll check it out this evening and get back to you on the tank. I’ll also try to get all the gasket paper stuff ready this weekend to get out to Eric.
Anxious to see John’s version with the Drillgine tank. I really like the look of the standard soup can tank on the Aquabug but I bet the Drillgine tank would look really cool too.
I had a chance at a cool speed boat with an O&R back when is was in MN. The guy wanted just a bit more than I could spend at the time but I’ve been kicking myself ever since. It was in great condition and complete. Had a nice metallic paint job from the 1960s and everything. Maybe one of these days I’ll see if I can get back in touch with him to see if he sold it. Now it’ll cost an arm and a leg to have it shipped. It was a 54” long c 18”
Just heard back from Eric. He’s up for making us some gaskets, just need to send the NOS gaskets along with the materials. I mentioned to him we’re also looking into the cylinder head gaskets once we identify some good material.
I found this site and it looks like they carry a few styles in smaller sheets. Might be worth getting a couple to 15x15” pieces to evaluate. They have at least 4 styles that seem comparable.
