    My mistake Mike. Thought you had a 5hp engine as fitted to a Hawk which I once had Your carb has not got a diaphragm I agree with Richard

    At a guess you aiming to paint the engine?? If all else fails then cant you mask off the exhaust while you do this? Then the reverse for the exhaust when you paint that
