Sometime ago I posted some photos of an Albion gearbox I have, to try and identify what it came off, l seem to remember someone on the forum had been looking for one for a project. In "Tractor Mart" Sept 9th, page 26, one is offered for sale in Hertfordshire.
I have a need for a machine that mows over banking , I am told it must be either two stroke or electric because it will seize due to lack of oil if you tilt a four stroke too far.
You could try using a hydraulic drive, by using a suitable pump, a motor, oil cooler and tank ( and hoses) you could use the tank as a counterbalance for the arm and cutting head.
By plumbing the motor directly to the pump, you don't need any control valves, just a relief valve if you stall the blade.
Driving the pump from a pto will give you on/off control.
Saturday was a bit of a washout, but Sunday was a glorious sunny day,
The Wheelhorse 706 is for sale, there was also a 1960's "Capco" Field Rider 301 for sale on one of the stalls. but the owner wanted £550.00, and didn't know what make it was.
My version of this involves a quad, front mounted flail mower with castor wheels on the front, I added an adjustable pair of wheels at the rear, and towed it round to cut the paddocks. I've now modified it again by cutting off the castors and adding a towbar which flips over for centre or offset towing. First pic shows the four wheeled version.
I met a gentleman at the Haddenham steam rally last weekend, he is on the lookout for a fuel tank cap for this tractor, if anyone can help, please PM me for his phone number.
I believe the tractor is also for sale. It's in Norfolk, by the way.
In certain parts of the agricultural USA areas you must have severe soil erosion as the hedgerows reduces solid erosion and acts as a filtered wind break. In certain parts of France, you can see miles upon miles of sweeping agricultural lands with very few hedgerows.
As as a rule of thumb, the more species of shrubs and trees, within a given length of hedge, the older the hedge is. In theory, if you have 10 different species, then the hedge is approximately 1000 years old which is often evidenced by old maps dating back to the 15 century.
Yes, look at the erosion being carried out in "Pale Rider"
If you like lots of levers Mark, you could double up on pulleys and belts, two more levers, like a Myford ML7 lathe trilever system, just select the ratio you want by releasing one lever and pulling the other.
My mate's New Holland TX42 has a spring loaded pulley, and one adjusted by a lead screw driven by a wiper motor, these are for the drum speed adjustment.
Rather than two expanding /contracting pulleys, how about using the wheelhorse pto clutch lever and gubbins, there's a good word, to push/pull the outer sheave of the pulley, and have a link to the idler/tensioner pulley to keep the belt tension right at both ratios.
Ahh! Got it! My reed petals are steel (possibly stainless), so likely still not a late unit.
Got round to finishing the assembly of the generator itself last night, So now only the tank needs welding. I'm curiuos to find out if I can weld this alloy? Did anybody here try welding anything on these engines?
/Steen
Hi Steen,
"Google" "Techno-Weld", it's a low temperature zinc alloy rod which comes as a kit with instructions.
Heat source can be a small gas torch, due to low temperatures required.
