Cub Cadet got a reaction from minky in Cub Cadet 70 restoration
Not much done lately due to having lots of school work to do, here is a little update.
The wheels are all finished now.
You can just about see in this photo that a previous owner wanted to put a larger sized battery on the dash tower and so they had taken a hammer to one of the sides to break the spot weld so we set to work on replacing this piece.
This was the first piece to get replaced, the holes are where it was spot welded before.
Here is the replacement piece
This is the replacement side piece that we made.
The screws that held the tail light on had no head left so I drilled them out.
Luckily it came off and the original bulb still worked.
Lots of new stainless steel bolts and washers have been bought ready for the reassembly

Tomorrow is my last day of sixth form, I have to go into school for exam revision and exams but officially I have left and then I start university in late September. Plenty of time to be projecting

A little bit more done over the weekend, I have now fastened on the brake, clutch and linkages onto the tractor so that I can finish painting it together.
A new front axle pin was made and we used stainless steel grub screws instead of a roll pin which was used before.
Heres a photo once it had all had some more paint.

Cub Cadet reacted to Anglo Traction in Downsizing in Metalwork
Thanks..
Will be good to get them working under steam again. I'm sure you'll do all the safety checks first with old engines.
Often the rubber seals like on the Sight Glass are perished and suspect the Seals/Glands on the Piston, Valve and Regulator Rods may need checking.
They were likely packed with Graphited Yarn. Not sure how/if Norm's Dad's Engine had the Steam Oil administered for the Piston and Valve?, as I can't see a lubrication system
in the pics. Hope the book helps.
Some engines like to have a mix of Coal and Charcoal, or just the latter to produce good heat. Also the Grate gaps size can be the cause, or so I have read!.
Done a little more on mine. Made up all the Pipe work and fittings for the Water Pump-

I emailed the manufacturing company this morning just on the off chance they would give me any information and got a very encouraging response within an hour.
i asked them for any early sales brochures and the plastic builders plate which they are going to sort for me.
they were interested that I'm restoring it and have asked for photos which i will email to them

Cub Cadet reacted to Stormin in BVG 2016
I went today just for a visit and meet up with Mark, his mum and dad and the twins.
Some photo's of the day.
Mark and Ewan in the parade.
I liked this.
Westwood with a nice diesel engine.
Nice little BMC.
Lambretta powered city van. Only one know about.
Don't show this to the children. Marks dad, Frank. (Norlet)
One horse power gin wheel driving all the machines in the background.
I must say the 214 mile round trip and 5 hours of driving was worth it. I'll try and get a weekend pass next year.

Cub Cadet reacted to meadowfield in Not so much handy, but lucky!
As some of you know, we are rebuilding ewans cub and engine.
Whilst undoing one of the head bolts it sheared off. We tried welding a nut, but it sheared below.
So I ground the top and tried to drill it.... The welding has hardened the bolt so it couldn't be drilled we bought a carbide drill and set to. It all went well until the drill snapped in the block.... Double doh!
Fortunately we managed to get the end to drop into the exhaust port. So ran another drill through and then started to clean out the threads.
Until snap! The tap snapped when it hit the curve of the exhaust port. Not happy, desperation saw me drill the tap with a carbide pcb drill, three 1mm drills later I managed to break the tap up in the hole and into the exhaust port.
I was going to give up last week, but it shows that a bit of perseverance pays off!
