Wallfish got a reaction from Lee in O&R Engine rebuild pics
Decided to get some parts together and rebuild this engine for a BeJay winch I recently bought.
The engine was covered in grime and very stiff to turn over. Since it needed to be completely disassembled just to clean it, might as well do a complete rebuild and document with some pics
Here's the winch
The engine completely disassembled and parts cleaned
Some of the NOS parts to be used. Cylinder, rings, connecting rod, complete seal/gasket kit, coil, flywheel, points, carb, ect.

Unfortunately I don't have much experience with those engines and only own one, which I have never taken apart. I'll search through my documentation to try and find a size but may only find a part #.
I would suggest you send a PM to member Webhead.(Joe Weber) He's not as active on here as he used to be but he might have the rings. You can also contact him through eBay as he has quite a few items up for sale now under Ohlsson Rice. His name on there is amcweb

Wallfish reacted to mg_rob in Garner tractor
Here's a couple of photos of my Garner light four-wheel tractor. It has a JAP 5 engine, centrifugal clutch and 3 forward and 1 reverse gears.
The large hand lever raises and lowers the draw-bar and a mid-mounted tool frame. I have the tool frame and 2 ridging bodies and a set of home made grubber tines.
The toolbox behind the drivers seat is an old ammunition box, this I have been told was factory fitted by Garner.

Thanks I just ordered some rings from overseas .5 sets for $11.89 with free shipping. So I have little to lose if wrong size but I measured my piece of ring I found in engine for thickness and measured piston and bore so I think they will fit .May need to grind some to get wright end clearance . I will post results once I get them and install. Thanks

Wallfish got a reaction from pmackellow in Homelite XL Tool collection
Homelite tools from the 60's. These were all based using the same 2 stroke engine from the XL-12 chainsaw.
XL-12 Chainsaw, XL-100 Circular saw, XL-A115 Generator, Drill Attachment, XL-SG1 Water pump, XLMB Military Blower. ( I have the XLBC Brush Cutter, but can't find the pics)
Still searching for the earth auger, the Harvester, a better example of the water pump and any other applications

Wallfish reacted to meadowfield in Brrr it's cold, but it had to be fixed
After last nights episode trying to improve bendys transmission, I ended up resorting to swapping back to belts. I'd also noticed that as well as sluggish starting, it occasionally made a horrible grind
So it was out with the engine, the starter is mounted low down on this k341 and you have to lift the engine out...
And here's why I had to play with, the starter is a 10 tooth one, with only 7.5 teeth...
the other is a high mount, and the other from the infamous acorn harvester at Ian's/Nigel's
Fortunately it's a low mounter too, and the teeth are good.
A few minutes later and voila, starts a million times better
Frozen fingers sent me inside for the night.
I was up first thing to defrost the car and thought I'd have a quick test drive.
It's pretty cruel outside, kitchen isn't too warm either
Bendy started first time, here's a few pics in the frost. I need more grip, might be digging the chains out...
Didn't get stuck this time either

Wallfish got a reaction from Joe the small engine man in Homelite XL Tool collection
While inspecting the Harvester engine, I found it must have been stored in a damp area for a long time as it had some issues so a semi rebuild was in order. New rings, gaskets and seals with a thorough cleaning of all the roller bearings and a carb rebuild.
Got it all back together and here's a short video of the first test run. Started up and ran but died out. Still need to adjust the carb and change the fuel as I run it heavy on oil for the first fire up. Steve sent the pole and tree jaw so hopefully I can get it all together this weekend and shake a tree. I'll post another video of it in operation.

Wallfish got a reaction from Joe the small engine man in Homelite XL Tool collection
Finally found an XLH-1 Harvester, or should I say "one fell in my lap". A really nice man from Michigan (Steve Adams) found this XL tool thread on MoM while researching it and contacted me through a PM. Turns out he is not a collector and would like it to go to someone who will get it running and enjoy having it in a collection. Steve also took the time to go back to the place he found it and look for the extension pole and the tree jaw that goes with it. He found them in a barn and is sending those as well.
These are very rare and even more so for a complete machine. I'm pretty excited about having one in the collection and look forward to getting it running to test it out.

Wallfish reacted to BadRandy217 in Homelite XL Tool collection
My father has an XL120 saw. It's in ok condition for the age. We got it up and running after sitting for quite a few years. Just drained and cleaned the tank and carburetor. Took two pulls and off it went. I couldn't believe the power this thing has. The new battery pack tools ain't got nothing on these. I'm looking to throw it up on EBay. Anyone know if they are bringing any kind of money?

Bought this chainsaw carving from a local guy last year and mounted it up on my shed. Just thought it looked cool with the snow covered beard
Amazing what some guys can do with a chainsaw.

Wallfish got a reaction from rlh in O & R Carb Repair Tutorial
Your carb is probably from a Chicken Power bicycle engine. The primer wasn't needed because the fuel tank is mounted above the carb and the rubber stopper type carbs are the newest style. Hopefully the little rubber thingy isn't dried out and hard because we haven't found a way to replace just the little rubber, only change the whole arm if you can find one. Member Webhead may have some if you need one, he is also the same guy who sells the diaphragms on ebay. A good remote control fuel line check valve may substitute but I haven't had the need to try that yet. That's all that little ball or rubber does, check valve the fuel so it only flows in the direction of the carb. You can test that rubber valve by connecting a clean piece of fuel line and see if you can suck air past the valve. if you can, the arm will need to be replaced unless you can get it to seal properly.
A new diaphragm will help pump enough fuel and usually needed to get these engines running.

Also have this Cutoff saw grinder. Same idea as the XL-100G but this is an attachment to the chainsaw compared to a specific manufactured tool.

Wallfish got a reaction from K-TRON in Homelite XL Tool collection
Found another tool for the collection. A Homelite XL-100G-1A. Basically the same as an XL-100 circular saw but with a grinder wheel instead of a saw blade but doesn't come with flat guide to ride on. Not in the best of condition concerning the paint but this is the only one I've ever seen so...

Wallfish got a reaction from Stormin in Petro Chug-A-Drill
Over here we can get can openers which cut the bead around the lid and not the lid. Imagine you guys can get them too. After repairs you can just solder around the edge and file it smooth. Once painted no one would ever notice.
You're right about someone getting that deal. If it was listed under Ohlsson & Rice it would've sold for $350+

Wallfish reacted to factory in Petro Chug-A-Saw
Another UK find that I bought earlier this year, seems to be the remains of a Chug-A Saw, sadly the seller didn't have any other bits of it. The engine serial no. is within 1000 of the two Chug-A-Drills I have.

Wallfish reacted to factory in Petro Chug-A-Drill
A rare find in the UK, a pair of Petro Chug-A-Drills, I was going to put these in the other Chug-A-Drill thread but they are not yet restored. Unfortunately there is only one tank between the two & it's badly crushed! No other damage though and both are free to turn over.

The Ohlsson & Rice section of this forum has been linked all around the net on US sites and some international sites as well. It is the only active forum on the entire net (as of now anyway) for O&R compact engines so posting stuff for sale on here is still an excellent way to reach other collectors. Our old site, before we moved here, had many members from around the world although most were from the US. I just wanted to let any other potential members who are interested in O&R engines know this.
