I don't suppose anyone has a starter motor they want to sell? The magnets have broken up on the D-160 starter. I have glues the bits back together and it works most of the time, however a replacement would be great.
Iain
Hi Iain, if the 16hp K series starter is the same as other smaller K series starters then I think I may have a spare starter.. I will have a look when I'm feeling well enough to head out to the shack.
Thanks for the photo's, I see the axle was only narrowed one side so I'm guessing the trike was a 2 seater?
Yep the way your old man shortened the axle makes perfect sense I can't do my axles that way as my lathe is too small to fit the shafts in safely, but the axles will be welded back together and then sleeved for extra strength.
Having seen some of those type of machine at work at Tractorfest I have a new found appreciation for them.. And for the owner/operators, they look like very hard work to use..
Looking awesome I'm eager to see how you make the axles narrower looks brilliant Ian
Thanks James, I'm eager to see how I'm going to narrow the axles too It will be a 1st for me..
I think some custom half shafts will have to be made. Not sure about cutting and welding using tube sleeves. Thinking of Ian's welding.
What are you trying to say about my welding Norm?? Point not only taken but also thought about before hand
In my defense a large part of my welds breaking on the 6x6 is down to the welder I have been using.. My arc welder just can't produce enough heat for the weld to really take hold!
If all goes well I hope to have the welding problems sorted today once and for all... If I can't make my welds safe them maybe I shouldn't be building something like this project that has rather a high chance of serious injury or worse should anything break at speed!
Years ago when my old man shortened a reliant axle to go under a yammy xj900 trike just cut down the hub end and rewelded the square drive flange back onto the shaft and never had a problem

That's an interesting solution but it could cause problems should the axle bearing ever need changing.
He might have too his Mate to weld it him on
If today goes like it should do then I will be doing all the welding myself James
Thinking about it I'm sure there's a cut down one in the workshop that I could take a picture of to show you what I mean I'll look first thing
Hi Kev, this years show may of been quite a challenge for you, but you certainly rose to the challenge
It was a fantastic weekend, roll on next years show
A bigger working area sounds great (don't forget to fill Noddy's tank up Nigel ), if all goes well I hope to have another go at ploughing without breaking anything
Well, I didn't need a spare chain for the show but as some of you will know I did manage to break a weld again... Not the same one as normal but a 3 inch long circular weld that held the sprocket onto the steel bush!! Boy is this machine pushing out some power!!
So once again Karl the master welder did his "melting metal in a strong and controlled way" trick yesterday and 6 wheel drive was restored
Only one thing left to do.. Test the 6x6 out by pulling it's heaviest load to date.. Yep the big trailer
I will get video footage when the trailer goes back out at the end of the week, the Kohler twin sounded sooo good under load roaring away
project mobility madness monster wheels !!!!!

Nos is an interesting idea, it still needs a little turbo![:D](//myoldmachine.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png)
