  1. Thanks Richard, it's looking like a few showers at the weekend, but plenty of time for that to change yet :D

Good news chaps.. Despite me welding the middle of the outrigger in upside down, everything bolted up as is should :)

The busted bearing in the chain tensioner thingy proved more of a problem to sort however!  Who would of thought the outer bearing case from a skateboard bearing could be so hard!

In the end I had to attack it with different grinding stones on a drill!

A bit of damage to the sprocket, but not enough to stop a new bearing being fitted.

Only the chains and fender to fit, then I can fire her up and see how she steers biggrin.png

It's been a while since the last 6x6 video, so here's the latest.. Enjoy. :)

  2. Where the hell did this come from!!      That's a nut's idea aimed solely at getting us to pay more!        Reading the article it's say that NFU expects it to cost about £100 a year!  Now correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure I've just read above that it's only costing people a little over £30 a year with NFU??

How would they police it anyway?  Will we have to watch the streets for "Mower detection vans", that have a couple of blokes in the back trying to match an engine sound they have heard coming from behind a house, to a list of "known" mower engine sounds?

And what about those "project" mowers that may not run or are not even bolted together? Are we going to have to get insurance on them just in case some "low life" breaks into your workshop and hurts him/her self while running past your project that's up on the bench and hasn't moved under it's own power in years???

What's next? Insurance on leaf blowers just in case a leaf you have blown manages to find it's way in next doors window, makes the owner sneeze and knocks over an expensive vase??

I remember reading a few winters back that you shouldn't clear the snow off the path in front of your house just in case someone slips and trys to sue you!!!

The world is going mad I tell you !!!

  3. If work continues at this pace then it looks like Cinders will be going to the ball.. Ok, maybe not a ball but something much more fun.. Rural Pastimes at Sedlescombe this coming weekend :D

The outrigger cleaned up, red oxided and the middle sprocket cover trimmed to fit...

The inner mount needs about an hours more welding done, most of that will be waiting for it to cool down again after welds!      Then a quick coat of paint before bolting everything back together again :)

  4.  Only the wheel horse mad lovers will notice and may think it's shameful to ruin such a machine with a new engine,..

If the engine fit's, then fit it :D

A small Kohler would be more in-keeping looks wise, but at the end of the day Charlie it's your tractor and you should do whatever needs doing to get it up and running again... I quite like Nigel's diesel engine idea :D

  5. It's a shame you didn't keep the TK Neil, she would of made a fine Horse Hauler :)

Back in my younger days I remember seeing TK's everywhere, these days they are only at shows or have been converted to horse boxes..

  6. If you left the axle as is, you could have three seats. Driver/pilot in the middle and a mug passenger each side. :D

I'm not sure I could find two people who would be "willing" to act as passengers! I know I wouldn't want to be on it unless I was the one in charge of the controls :D

Your relying on two mugs, sorry, passengers, being available at the same time to keep it balanced! :fingerscrossed:

If the driver/pilot/? sits on one of the outside seats he would be able to see to steer when in wheely mode,it would need those steering brakes though, and blindfolds for the passengers! :omg:

So you could be back to zero steer with casters on the seat backs. :woohoo:

I did think of brake steering at the back for "Wheelie mode", I could still do it using the Reliant's handbrake :)

I was having a look around the net yesterday and found a photo of the wheels Doug has that have been banded.. I think they would look quite good with a chrome hubcap, but they need a bit more "deep dish" look :)

  7. I didn't get as much done yesterday as I had hoped due to having to play nurse to a poorly wife, but good progress was made.

At the end of play yesterday I sat down with a coffee and was looking at the underside of the outrigger.... Can you spot something odd?

    TSS15329_zpsb20a64b6.jpg

You see the manufacturing lines in the part that has been lowered....

    TSS15330_zps63010061.jpg

Both ends don't have them on the underside which can mean only one thing....... Yes, that's right.. When I welded the center of the outrigger back in, I had it upside down!!!

    TSS15331_zpsc048bdb7.jpg

It's a bit late to do anything about it now though, but all should not be lost.. As the axle hole was in the center of outrigger, it should still be in the right place even though it's the wrong way up... All I need to do is turn the bearing block holder thingy through 180 degrees and everything should bolt back up smile.png

  8. looking good Ian  what are the measurements for the adapter plates? and how are you thinking of doing those? bolt em together? if so put a brake disc inbetween em, bit better than drums eh.

    Koen

Thanks Koen, no idea on the measurements yet, I've been to busy nursing my poorly wife this morning and welding the 6x6 this afternoon.. There are disc conversion kits make for this axle.. I wonder what pcd they have?

I may have a couple of spare 12" wheels like the ones with the ag tyres on, you could widen them or swap the centres over.

or you may be able to bore a pair of wheelhorse hubs to suit the reliant shaft.

Thanks Doug, a pair of 12" wheels that bolt straight on would open up a few more options.. I'd best reply to your PM :)

The Reliant axles are tapered at the hub end which would make them interesting getting a Wh hub on, but they do have a keyway.. That's maybe another option.
