    Project "Why Not"

It's never fun!! I've made an adapter thingy to power the air horns from one of the rear tyres... The downside is the more horny you get the more lopsided you become Hi Max, I'm not really sure as I tend to upload the bigger videos overnight.. I'd guess maybe 4 hours which may seam a long time but the video is full 1080p hd at 50 frames a second.. The vid is 1.28GB is size, the raw footage comes in at a massive 5.19GB! While were on the subject of videos, I've just order a cheaper version of a GoPro camera, if it does what it says on the tin (ok, box) there will be some interesting on board footage to come I didn't get as much done yesterday as I would of liked, but any progress is good progress The slimmed down wiring loom is now fully wrapped up in black tape, 90% routed and plugged in.. Working out where to put the voltage regulator took quite a while.. In the end I made this bracket and welded it to the chassis. The "open" design is to let air to the back of the regulator to help keep it cool. I also make up a couple of these.. Which were welded to the battery box/tray thingy. Ideal for mounting the starter solenoid.. Oh, and a bit of news... Nigel and I were explaining to a Gent yesterday about WN and telling him that we were struggling to find somewhere to do some speed testing, and the car park is just too small.. The said Gent said, "No problem, bring it up to my place"..

    JR's Mower Salvage Part 2

That's hard to say, maybe 10 percent, a few years ago, I would have said 30 percent. This same group has set here since the mid 1990's. At one time there were more, but mostly late model MTD's that were stripped for parts and then salvaged for metal. He has less MTDs now, but about the same amount of vintage GT stuff as I saw here back in 2002. Scrap metal prices have gone down and local authorities have cracked down on the methamphetamine production so less mowers "showing up" at the salvages. It is very prevalent in the US for people to buy dozens or even hundreds of garden tractors and not sell them, but rather set them in a field to rust and rot into the earth. This behavior is a deficiency in ones personal characteristics in that someone wants them to have them, but by having them destroys them. Some call it "The Pride of Ownership", but what it is really is the inability to differentiate. It is one thing to stack the shed and lean too and what ever will fit under the tarps for future trades or use, but when you buy and never sell or protect the machines you do not care for the the machines, it is all about a persons personal feelings and characteristics. Not a judgment, just an observation. I buy the best I can find, even if I can't afford it, so there is some issues there as well.

    Merry Tiller Professional

I have now been given two Merry Tiller Chassis (thanks Phil Murrell and James Manley), which have both turned out to be Professional models. These had Clinton Longlife 900 iron engines, has anyone got a Clinton 900 3¼ hp engine preferably complete that I can fit. My other Professional is pictured below.....

The faster "Why Not" went, the louder the air horns. The downside is that the pipework would need clearing of liquid manure after every run. Worth a thought though.

It took me a while to work out what you were referring too as I most of my tractors have a proper PTO to drive the attachments It is very interesting that some of the pulleys were pressed steel and others cast. I will have to check out my WH mule drives to see which version they are, might even have a spare one. I have a mule drive for one of my D series but no attachments to use it with It will be interesting to see what type of pulleys are used on that. Iain

Thanks Mark, I'm not sure what's going to happen with the dash. I may change it at a later date for something more Wheel Horsey.. We shall see. Thanks Iain Don't worry Max the raw steel look will be staying for now.. Today I managed to get the ignition barrel fitted.. Space is getting a bit tight in there! Marking out the correct place to drill a hole through the panel for the ignition barrel was interesting to say the least, but I'm happy with how it turned out. The barrel is flush with the panel.. While I was drilling holes in that area I also fitted the choke control. And now onto a part of the build I was dreading... Sorting out the electrics!!! I forgot to take a photo of the wiring loom before I started but once all the old insulation tape was removed (a horrible sticky job!) I worked out which bit's of the loom I needed and which could go.. This is the removed pile, basically all the lighting, brake lights, indicator, and horn circuits.. The loom draped over so I could work out what has to go to where.. Starting to look a bit better, well tidier at least If all goes to plan I hope to have the wiring done and the engine fired back up tomorrow.. Fingers crossed I didn't cut any wires I shouldn't have And for your viewing pleasure here's the latest WN video... It's a bit of a long one so best get a drink ready beforehand

    My westwood mini jeep

This was one of those things, i saw a picture on the internet and had to have a go. The first picture was my first mod, front wheels the same size as the back ones. The rest are the finished Jeep. If you want to see more info on this I did a blog on instructables http://www.instructables.com/id/Gas-petrol-powered-jeep-from-ride-on-mower/ If the link isn't allowed/doesn't work just search my screen name in google images.

    Ultrasonic cleaner

I bought a ultrasonic cleaner a while back but not had the chance to use it until today. I used it on the troublesome Bolens G14 carb, first with caustic acid as suggested by Norm and then with a general cleaner to remove any traces of the acid. It came out looking great but I have not had the chance to reassemble and test the carb yet. Picture of the cleaner I bought sitting on the Hood of a rather rusty Bolens G10. My Bolens are just like our cats, they get into every picture Iain
