    Biddenden Tractorfest

Day 2 of the Tractorfest at Biddenden in Kent today, we took the "new" International Cadet 81 along and had a nice chilled out day despite the rain showers The arena parade was well supported and various folk were trying their hand with various machines and implements in the working area A great day, thanks to Kev and Ethan for all their hard graft, well done chaps !!

    Yellow Mower Challenge!

Grass still not growing yet!, maybe the maintenance people crept around and did it when I wasn't looking. When able, I carried on with the spare engine. Proper sized rings arrived- ........now fitted and good as new. Replacement (used) HT Coil received (took a flyer on the Auction site) and a new plug. So all the parts ready to assemble- All back together and the ignition and timing all done and spot-on- Er!, you may have noticed I have 2 Bronze Flywheels in the earlier pic,one with a silver Cover Plate and a Matt Black painted one. Plan is to run this engine in with 2 Flywheels on. they are not the same though. One has a standard Nut for a Kick Start Dog Ratchet, and the other is from John/Alan's Donor Mower which has the Pull Start Ring (dated 1957 by the way), The Black cover plate will allow me to check and set the Revs easily with the Laser Tacho- I'll probably go the 'Heath Robinson' route with a Frame to mount it in with a 'Victorian' look about it with lots of Brass, Copper and Nickel Silver. There will most likely be an unusual Fuel Tank and may have it driving something (stationary), so I will probably shift the progress on it to another Forum section?.

Bent up a fuel tank bracket and plug welded it to the frame behind the seat... Added a strip of self stick foam padding on it : And clamped the tank into place :

    Painting Mom's House

I painted Mom's house back in 1996 and it was in dire need again being almost 20 years ago. The brick was peeling badly so the first order of business was to power wash all the loose paint off (most of it), That took three days, next I carefully power washed the loose paint from the wood work. After it dries for a few days or week I will go after the peeling spots with a sander and use a heavy duty exterior oil primer. The whole house will then receive a coat of Glidden's Gripper primer (the best I've ever used), finishing up with two top coats of 100% Acrylic Latex Satin. There was rain both days i was using the power washer and as it cleared I snapped a couple pictures of a rainbow over the house. Mom's house is in Wichita Kansas, 175 miles North West of me, so I will be making several trips to complete the job. The nice part of the drive is going through the Flint Hills, almost 75 miles between towns. Many ranchers out here have between 100,000 and 500,000 acres, some even more, it's mostly unfenced and cattle graze at will. At Easter time they set the whole thing ablaze and hundreds of miles of prairie light the night time sky. This kills the weeds and small trees and allows the grass to grow back thick. I include the obligatory "selfie", showing I was concentrating intently on the road, while not shooting pictures.

Great photos Paul, the working area was nice and soft and my plough worked very well its no good behind the Rowcrop as i had problems steering it, now i know the plough works I'll put a hitch and lift cable on the Raider 12 and use that. It was good to give the Trachorse a work out and I was well pleased with its performance

Extract from Which 1964, testing several power lawn mowers, interesting to see how unreliable some were even when new.

Looks like it got a bit damp, Paul. Unless the water on the seat was due to over excitement.

Cool video Max, that looks like great fun. There's something about going sideways that always brings on a big grin The dog looked very tired at the end though, the poor fella could only run very slowly

Looking at pictures of vintage BMX bikes online, we noticed a lot of the high end bikes of the day had a gusset behind the fork neck. Of course we had to have one too....

For the actual engine mount in the bike we had to get a little more creative. We made a "saddle mount" out of some 1" I.D. DOM tubing. We split the tube and welded a flange along each edge. By loosening the 4 screws you can slide the motor fore and aft to adjust the chain tension...then lock it down.

We figured out early on working on the floor or bench wasn't going to cut it. We turned down a piece of black pipe and clamped it in the vise. Then we could drop the front fork neck over it and it conveniently allows us to swing the frame around from side to side. It would work better if we squared the bottom end to clamp it...instead we just cranked down on it hard enough to flatten the pipe lol... Here you see the new hub laced into the rear wheel and the 72T sprocket mounted...

you can buy a roll of enameled wire from maplin and rewind them and use a small motorbike coil if you aren't out for authenticity... My dad has rewound a lot of villiers coils to cure the issue

    look what I found

Hello guys I got this from a machinery collector who say he got it from a Market Gardener many years ago I cant say I have seen another can anybody identify this machine thanks

Thanks all for the input! It has been out there for who knows how long. I used to play on it when I was a kid. The front wheels are much taller than the rear, almost like steel buggy wheels. My friend will be pulling it out to use as a lawn ornament, and C-101plowerpower's awesome expertise, will now give me some guidance as to what perhaps the front looked like! Thanks all again for your vast knowledge. I'm sure once I travel through more of my property, I will find some other mystery I will need help with. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
