    Qualcast Model E1

I was helping one of my customers today clearing out the Chinchilla House as it is going to be demolished and a new building erected. I came across this old cylinder mower complete with the grass box. It's a Model E1 and all seem to be working freely. Tony, my customer, very kindly said it was mine if I wanted it. If anyone got any information about these old push mowers I would be grateful. Thanks.

    Bits for my next Project

Thanks Gents, I'll try and maintain the standard you guys set. Here's a few pics, in between some waffle, 'cause I know you like pics. Spent some time over the weekend sorting the PTO 'Lump'. Need to take out the wear and as much slack in the meshing bits as possible. Have given it a clean up and inspection, ordered 1/4" x 2. 1/2" HT BSF bolts (New old stock) and a Plain Oilite bushing. Had a battle to remove the large bushing without a press, so had to improvise with a long bolt, various spacers and elbow grease- ... got there in the end- Fortunately I had a big enough lump to machine the Flanged Bushing from. The other side was a bit easier to remove being a Plain Bronze bushing- First operation was boring and turn the press fit diameter, then reverse to machine the Flange and thrust end to size- Managed to finish the bushing to a good fit in both axial and radial sizes to remove the wear, so should last a while- Also cleaned up the Line Shaft Bearing mounting ready for paint. Had to machine the base flat after a clean up. A 5/8" reamer went through ok with slight resistance, so has little wear (un bushed), but not a well machined bore . May bore it out to 3/4" and press some bushes in. Grease Cups were washed out and had a pickle session in White Wine Vinegar. Polished up nice inside and out- Lastly for now, These 2 identical items are going to be the Fuel Tank(s) in tandem with Balance pipes and Fuel Level Tube- These have a bit of history and are from my 'Late' Father's career and so I'll put them to use. Anyone know or care to offer their idea of what they were used for/on ?. Dimensions are- 72mm dia at the open end, and 167mm in height. Bye for now.

    Toro workman 4300-D

Had a good day today on the toro with the help of Sam I've made the rear hinge brackets and pivot pins and also fitted the hydraulic rams to it , I did a test run and all worked fine I just now need to get the sheets for the floor and sides, I then removed hope fully for the last time to finish off the bell housing , then we refitted the engine and then continued to make some throttle linkages so now it revs up by the foot and hand controls , so I've had a pretty good day , I've now discovered I may have to put a header tank in to the cooling system because the radiator s now lower than the engine and it seems to be struggling with air locks and pumping issues so I'm hoping to put a raised header tank in the system to stop this ,,pictures to follow !

I wasn't going to sell mine i was giving it away for the shipping cost, to help Joe out if I could. I always considered the forums a place to locate spares and advice. It's fortunate for you to have extra heads and know how to repair them. As previously stated, Joe's head is cracked in half? Is there a way to repair that?

I have heads, but I am not selling them for just stripped plug threads. I have five ways of repairing stripped threads. Helicoils are best considered as a temporary repair. If stripped threads is all it is it can be sorted.

seems to have been two threads along the same line

A friends Lister domestic water pump

A friend of mine bought a Lister water pump from Johns place a few weeks ago and since then its had new bearings , springs and gaskets. He came round today and wanted a water tank and some pipes made up. Over the last few weeks I've been playing with a chicken plucking machine and i had a spare tank which is from a drinks vending machine made of stainless steel ( also from Johns). Out came the box of pipe fittings and pipe threading tool, with the help of the power hacksaw ( also from Johns ) we fabricated it all together. Here's a couple of photos, hope you like

The 16hp kohler head is a unique head with 10 bolts, the 12 and 14 hp k301 and k341 are the same and have 9 bolts. I just bought a practically new head, carb, fuel, pump, starter, coil, and condenser for for 85.00, I feel luckier than a pig in slop. I was looking for a head for many months. My head needs a heli-coil in the plug hole, you can have it for free if you want to pay shipping. These 16hp heads usually run over 60.00-80.00 used here in the states and over 200.00 new

I am in the same boat. D-160 single cylinder kohler has bad threads in the spark plug hole and I don't want to heli-col, but may have to do so. I found a head for sale on CL, but ebay has been devoid of them for some time.
