at a loose end so we have dragged this old gutbrod out the field its got to be one of the ugliest machines around, but one of the best for shear pulling power and hard work, so ian and i have decided to get it going and see if we can make it look nicer so first thing is to chuck all the panels away, this is going to be an intresting joint project cos its going to be done as cheap as possable using what junk we can lay our hands on we dont even know if the engine will run but we do have a name in mind for it .

Made a start on machine number 2! This one will be left in its working clothes......... as hard as it is for me not to strip it back and paint it!!! I'm determined to have at least one machine I can actually get dirty.......... So, this one has had the engine stripped down, checked for any faults and rebuilt. I have been luckier with this one as the engine is internally very good. Its obviously had some work in the past as its fitted with a +40 piston and rings, the oil was clean and no water!!! I have only had to buy a new carb gasket and a spark plug to have it running, so its been a very cheap overhaul. See, not painted!!!

here's the rest of the pics: my opening "furrow" having problems with the engine suddenly shutting down on me, still don't know why it did that. it did restard after a couple minutes and continued to run nice and strong for the rest of the day and here's me plowing a question regarding the plowing depth, how deep do you guys have to plow? i had to go about 8" deep, don't know what is normal for horticultural plowing?

Hi all, Have decided to sell my shot blast cabinet and the remaining medium and fine grits. I haven't used it for over a year and its just sitting taking up space. It is the same one as is for sale on Ebay and other places. Its in a used but clean, good condition. it has a couple of spare window protecting sheets, it also has some different size nozzles for blasting. I have been running it using my 14cfm compressor with an inline moisture trap(not for sale, nor included) so its been kept very dry. I have about 6kgs of medium grit and over 8kgs of fine crushed glass grit for a more gentle blast to go with it. I'm looking for £50 for it all, collection from Newbury, Berkshire. Any questions, please ask?

Many say you plow half the distance across your moldboard. A 12" plow you plow 6 inches deep. a 10 inch plow 5 inches. It would seem to me that a smaller 8 inch plow could be used deep than the 10 or 12. The ideal depth is were you can move through the earth hand have the "slice" of soil lay over like a cut of brisket. If your soil isn't laying over it is too wet to plow. That said, if your in a location that stays wet or has a high rain fall you may never plow if you wait for ideal conditions. Many plow contest occur on land that has been worked many times and may not lay over because it lacks compaction and surface roots

Hi all, sorry for the inactivity, been busy and not had so much workshop time, but I have been slowly but surely working in the Westwood. I sent the carb to be cleaned by a friend of mine, that should be back soon and hopefully the Westwood will be usuable For now I painted the whole chassis and bodywork with Owatrol oil, the only bits I left untouched were some corners underneath that were hard to reach coated in oily grass anyway I also straightened out the steering wheel, rustproofed and painted it, and some other little ajustments here and there. And yes, I managed to spill Owatrol oil over one of the rear tyres I'll look forward to being able to use it for gentle garden work this spring.
