Winter Project

Got some shed time working on the red bonnet, I finished sanding off the last of the red paint and my son came down with the mig welder and offered to weld it up for me. I went off to make the tea while he welded it up. All done and I started grinding it up but its not finished yet, I don’t want to cock it up so I’ll wait for him to come back tomorrow but I’m well pleased with the progress. -

Welding trolley project

Quick little fabrication project. I repurposed this 3 wheeled walker thing that my grandad got his brother as a joke present . I didn't use any of the original tubing as it was quicker to use square stuff we already had. The bottle sits low down over the back wheels for stability. The old adjustment knobs were used to attach the chain, works well. For the novelty factor I used the handles makes it easy to push around. All finished, its proved very useful so fair when moving it between workshops! I might add some bars on the sides later to hold the welder and plasma cutter on properly. Works well enough without them though -

Next part of the rebuild was to fabricate a couple of parts. One of them was the part that the hood fastens to. This is the only picture I could find of this part so a bit of guess work was needed. I made up a bit of a template to test fitting first. Heres what I came up with. On the picture it looked like there was a piece of round bar welded on as a bit of a strengthener so I welded that on later. Fortunately I had the original choke and throttle controls so fabricated the brackets for these from the photo. All sorted out, looks just like to original so i'm happy with that Last job was to make a battery tray, it didn't have one originally but Its more secure. -

Barney Lee's little walk.
Fix'em all reacted to Stormin for a post in a topic
Barney Lee is on a charity walk round Britain's coast line. You can read all about it on his website. https://barneylee.co.uk/ Tomorrow morning he starts out from Silloth on Solway and I'll be meeting him, somewhere between Cardurnock and Brough by Sands, on the Solway Coast. I'll then bring him home to spend the night with Carol and I. In the morning, I'll return him to where I picked him up and from there he will continue his walk. -

O&R 13B. (Groomer trimmer)

Nice to hear you found more parts from the trimmer, I have some of the small parts for those but sadly no cutter head, I intend to try & build one using a spare engine, will need to make a lot of the larger parts and see if I can find a modern cutter head that could be used with it, this is a long term project of mine. It would be helpful to know the length of the aluminium tube(s), please could you let me know the size. I do have this parts diagram for an earlier variant of the trimmer (known as the Power Whip), I can't see a trigger control on this version, but the diagram may help identify more parts you may still have. Forget to mention before, looking at the first three digits of the serial number I can tell you that the engine from your trimmer was made in April 1977. David -

Gemini restoration

Hi Fix'em all, Nice machine there. I bought two belts, the first one from fleabay which, although the correct size, didn't allow the clutch to operate very well (F&F A540/A20). I then bought a belt from Simply Bearings in Leigh Lancashire which is a cotton dry cover Kevlar reinforced mower wrapped V-belt. Model number is DRYB-4L-K-220/XDV. The clutch now works perfectly and has made a real difference. -

I think it’s the strengthening piece of trim they put along the edge, it’s upside down and it’s a water trap. They all seem to rust in the same place.
