    Wheelhorse from bits

Got a few more bits fitted today, rear fender support, dash tower and dash and righthand footrest. all the steering fitted and greased also connected the clutch and brake. Must remember when i take tractors apart to remove broken spiltpins from operating rods very annoying when rebuilding them. I've bought another one Neil ( under wraps at the moment) ive got a few C series in bits and need to make some room

    Ransomes Turf Trak 425

My new Tractor arrived today,a Ransomes (Steiner ) Turf Trak 425 21,5 Hp 3 cylinder Kubota Diesel, 4 x 4 hydrostatic transmission with two speed axles. Very similar to my existing 420 but a bit bigger. Seems to be excellent condition with just enough bits to sort to make it interesting. Number two cylinder running badly ( loose injector pipe joint ) number three cylinder glow plug has a dead short, quite a few stray wires that seem to do nothing but generally very pleased with it. There are a couple of trim panels missing from the front end.

Hi all, the Wheelhorse is now running very smoothly, and the electrical and charging issues are fixed. I still need to touch up the wheels and sort out the seat, but for now here's some pictures from a nice autumn drive (making the most of a break in the weather after storm Brian! )

Back from a good day at the South Downs Heritage Centre at Hassocks in West Sussex. Great support with some interesting and varied machines, also the chance for some of us to add to our collections... Here's some photos starting with the all important group photo...

Look like a really interesting place to visit when I am next in Sussex. Good to see Chris flying the flag for the Bolens.

Your always better off selling parts and even machines not restored, you never get the money back and the new owner misses the "honeymoon" time with the tractor, you know that time of lust that allows you to stay up for hours pleasing your tractor, but after 20 years your ready for separate vacations.

As I'm only selling them they are having the oily rag treatment, not worth all the cost and labour of doing a full restoration then fighting to get the money back

    Another in the stable.

Collected a '75 Raider 10 today with side discharge cutting deck. Engine supposedly OK, but gears cannot be selected. The idea is to eventually restore it, or make something special. The engine will go into the C-125 while the 12hp off that is rebuilt. Below photo's of as collected. Not to bad I suppose, seeing as it's been stood outside for a number of years. The deck has not fared as well. But I think it can be rescued eventually. First thing was to blow the tyres up to make it easier to push about. Next a good pressure wash. Strangely there's red paint under that blue. Then it was up onto the work bench. Just to see what would happen, I connected a battery. Turned the key and the engine spun easily. I did check the oil first. Cleaned and checked plug and points and got a nice healthy spark. Here is when I found throttle and choke cables/controls, very, very stiff. Never mind, choke fully open, throttle halfway, squirt petrol into the carb, turn key and...... It fired up and ran for a second or two. While I set too on the controls, I left the old petrol in the tank to drain. Have no idea how old it is, but I've never seen golden brown petrol before. Well, not out of a plastic tank. That's it for now.
