Webhead,
Good to see you. I haven’t run into these little clips yet on any of my engines, guessing they’ve probably been removed or lost along the way. They do look like they would be a pain to install.

I watch those come up on eBay and drool over them. Maybe one day I’ll finally expand into them as well. Lately I’ve been laser focused on getting my collection going of the 1hp O&R engines and tools.
-
Bob,
Very nice, do you have the old O&R 60 or the 23 or 19 spark ignition engines? Those are really cool!
Clint

Thanks David! I have a couple Champion UY6 plugs I bought for my first O&R engine, I’ll take a look and see if they will also fit the TAS P-5.

Chris,
Good to have you on the forum! Great C-saw and nice work fixing the recoil spring. I’m still fairly new to these engines and this will be great info to know if I ever run into a similar problem. I’ve repaired a couple coils so far but never had a spring in the condition you had to deal with.
David and John are awesome, their knowledge on these engines is incredible and their willingness to help educate those of us that are newer to this is amazing! I’ve benefitted greatly from their expertise and advice along the way.

Good point, those other larger items like tanks would take up a bit more room. Ok, good to know - this is all helpful for me to think through the packing and shipping process.
-
Absolutely, I’ll keep on the look out.
-
Bob,
Understood. I’m getting closer to a number to throw at you for the parts. I’ll do the best I can based on what all I can see in the photos.
I’m curious, do you think all the misc small, loose used and NOS parts that are on the tarp in the photo (not the all saws, trimmers and other tools) would all fit in a large USPS box? I think if I can make a trip out to your place I could pack the stuff properly and deal with the shipping.

Excellent, thank you very much. I think I need the 10mm version for my P-5. I’ll look for a CMR7A. Much appreciated!

Great, thank you. Can you provide the spark plug part numbers that are stamped on them? I might be able to source these if I can get a couple numbers to start from.
Thanks!

Wow, that’s a beauty- that turned out amazing, very nice work! Thank you for the photo. Good to know about the blasting, I may look into that as well. When I first went through the original post I saw the little orange NOS P-5 engine that Wallfish had and assumed it was this engine but I see now it’s a P-7. I have a P-7 as well that is mounted to an ice auger and it’s in pretty nice shape. I picked up a little orange P-5 not too long ago but haven’t been able to dig into it yet since I’ve been obsessed with the little Ohlsson Rice Engines. I hope to mess with P-5 before long and at least see if I can get it running.
One challenge I’m having with the old P-5 is locating the proper spark plug. The one that’s in the engine now is a NGK C-40 and I can’t seem to find any information on this plug or it’s equivallent number today. The P-7 wasn’t too difficult but the plug on the P-5 is much smaller. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Bob, I just sent you a follow up PM.

Bob,
You’re right about shipping costs these days, they’re definitely high. That’s partly why I hope I can work something out for myself to come out your way so I could have time to pack things up properly and deal with blades and stuff like that. I need to look at your photos again to get a better idea of quantity and scale of what all you have. I’ll keep at it. The company I work for has an office in Boston so I just need to put together a trip requiring me to come out that way. I could easily arrange a side visit so that I could maybe spend a Friday evening and the better part of a Saturday out at your place getting things packed up.

Happen to find a good deal on a coil on eBay so now I have a spare if needed.
-
David,
Thank you, this is very helpful. I can’t believe you even have service bulletins about decals the black background looks tempting. I’ll have to position both labels and see which looks better.
Clint

I may have to look into that option. I’ve never tried to arrange something like that but I bet there is a business out there that does those sorts of things.

David,
That would be really cool. I don’t have enough scrap parts or engines to do that yet but a cut-away engine display would be a fun project.
-
This would be a neat find, an O&R engine cut-away display.

The decal on the front of the pull starter is completely faded on my trimmer. Normally I would leave everything in as-found condition but I might go for a new decal on this one since the faded sticker is quite unattractive and the rest of the trimmer is in pretty decent shape. I’m thinking someone must have wiped it ei5 some harsh chemicals or something at one point to clean it and basically erased the lettering. The rest of the paint looks to be original and is in too good of condition for this to be sun fading damage.
Does anyone know if this model would have used the label with silver background and black lettering or the black background with white lettering? I personally think the black background and white lettering would look nice since the other Orline decal on the side of the gearbox is black with white lettering.
Thanks!

Thanks Bob! I gotta get something set up soon so I can get out your way. It’s driving me nuts that I’m not closer to your neck of the woods.

Hello Bob,
I apologize we haven’t touched base recently but I’m still very interested in your collection of tools and parts. I’m still hoping I can get out to Boston on a business trip and maybe swing by to meet you. Please don’t let anything end up in the scrap yard. We will figure something out even if I have to make a road trip
Thanks,
Clint

I bet you’re right, between the flimsy frame and all the plastic shrouds they probably didn’t fair well. Would be fun to see a picture of a real one though...
-
Very nice, can’t wait to see the whole thing put back together!

Just did another carburetor rebuild and learned something that might be a helpful tip when getting to the step where you run the filament under the fingers of the retainer spring. If you loop some filament under the pivot roller before sliding the spring in it makes it easier to get the filament under the fingers. You simply put the spring in between the loop and then slide the loop forward as the spring goes under the roller.

The valve on one of my carburetors has a tiny groove machined into the needle section. Is this the needle referred to in this notice? There is no other indication of a “X” anywhere on it that I can find.
