I went on a journey to Oxfordshire on Friday to collect my latest purchase .
Had to drive like a bat out of hell to get back sharpish so that , er in doors , didn't see another tractor arrive at the ranch.
The guy that I bought this from also had an awesome collection of Wheelhorse tractors including a suburban 401 , lawn ranger, and many c series tractors along with some awesome implements.
Luckily I sneaked the latest member of the Heard into the barn with minutes to spare

This video from 1929 concept was posted a few times on other forums. The thing I find most interesting, is how they used a steering wheel to control it vs. using levers.

Just dug this out from John's stash.  Have been trying to see what the engine was for years, but buried too deep.
    Now I know.

A hand push sprayer with the engine driving a small pump. The two spray arms rotate to the horizontal position.  Looks
complete apart from a petrol tank.  I have now removed the engine for a clean up and a better look when time allows.

Another Milestone this afternoon. Fired up the engine  . Burst into life on the 2nd pull and no smoke !   .
Had a small fuel leak at the Carb Banjo, found it was a faulty Fibre Washer.
Runs fine from Idle to mid Revs, which is all it will do for a Litre of fuel burn until the Rings bed in.
Started up 4  times, all on 1st pull and have now got enough heat into it to cure the VHT Paint.
Must admit the use of the Aspen Fuel has a very pleasant smell, both neat and when burn.

When at Newby Hall last year, we were camped about 1/4 mile from where our exhibits where. Having three and only being able to drive one at a time, walking back and forth got to be a bit of a bind.  So for this year something had to be done to save the poor old legs. They're not as young as they used to be. It's the rigor mortis setting in early.
So this morning I had a scrat about. One Westwood front axle and wheels, some 2" box section, surplus ladder racks and the result you can see below.

    Still ramps to make yet.

That guy has some serious talent and bottomless pockets. All that hydraulic stuff can get expensive.
And my wife says I have too much time on my hands to play around with tractor building.

I just got back from the Memorial Day weekend show in Bernardston MA. The attached picture shows my display of O&R engines which has grown a bit from the previous posting. I ran out of room and had to leave some of the larger pieces at home.

Great show. Lots of sun. No rain. Chance to visit with old friends. Everybody is amazed at the vatiety of tools powered by the O&R engines.

That is the question. This machine offers the option of both. I'm bowing down to German engineering on this one boys, sorry, I just do not know what to say.

Just trying to get the ball rolling on here so here's some pics of a 2 seat custom tractor used to cruise around the engine shows. Made of spare Wheel Horse parts and uses a pull start Kohler M8 for power.

The original was sold at the big Wheel Horse show in Pennsylvania a couple years ago to the president of the WHCC. I kinda miss it so I decided to build another one close to original as I can. Hope to have it done by the end of June so I can take it to the big WH show to see it's older brother.
Here's a pic of the progress so far. Got the lowered front axle done, most of the frame welded up, most of the offset steering and the firewall.

Here another Champ that I have added to my collection, its a 12V only version made for the US military. Unusually the engine serial number has been ground off, I don't know if all the ex-military ones were.

Since taking the pictures I have removed the incorrectly fitted NGK long-reach spark-plug and fitted a Champion UY6, this isn't the first time I've had a seller fit a new plug of the wrong type just before they shipped it.

So the wife is always pestering me to work on the "Honey Do" list. She also says I should use those tractors instead of reading about tractors!
So...... Since RedSquare is down today, out came the backhoe for some work. Thought I would post over here since I still have the need to read about tractors, engines and machines.
Needed to remove a large 12 foot Forsythia bush. She wants to do a small garden in this area and this thing took up quite a bit of room.
Had to dig a trench around the base, hooked up a chain to the front end bucket and yanked it out. Put a beating on the hoe with some of larger roots and rocks but got it done. She hasn't decided if the others will need to go yet so I may be back at again next week.

Wish I did have some build pics. I usually just start building on a whim with no real plan or expectations so many projects never make it to completion. Plus I work so messy, unorganized and on many things at the same time, the camera would probably end up lost or broken if it was anywhere near the shop. This thing actually started out as something else but turned into this when I happen to put the snow blade up near the tires while looking for some fender ideas. By the time it was figured out, it was almost done.

Morning all, a bit more progress for you..

Starting at the top... Brake fluid reservoirs mounting bracket.. Only tacked on at the mo.
    Middle...                   Bonnet hinges...
Bottom...                  Two bit's of box welded to the engine frame... These will bolt to the chassis and will add vital strength to that area..

Getting the engine out was interesting, slide it forward and lift at the same time!

Engine frame bolted back on to help keep things in line during welding... Plenty of surface rust to be cleaned off!

A view you would only normally get if you were lying on your back and had just been run over by WN

I did make a good start on the cleaning up and welding yesterday, lot's of joints like this needed welding up..

A few more parts have turned up.. New front tyres, sorry for the rubbish photo..

And some shiny stainless pancake air filters..  These are for a 1098cc MG Midget engine so two of them should flow more than enough air.
