    I'm a Train Mechanic

    This is the last of the three original Barnum and Bailey circus trains that used to tour with the circus. They junked the others from what I heard and this one belongs to a fellow that uses them at festivals and events. It is a Massey Ferguson 1650 garden tractor underneath the train costume. I repaired the brakes and rebuilt the steering column last year, this fall they will bring it back for routine maintenance. They complained about a part of the tractor on the rear that was causing difficulties and was in the way, so I removed it for them and gave them another spot for storage. The part was the complete three point hitch, they said I could dispose of it as i saw fit, I did, its on my tractor now.

    Harthill Carnival

    Yesterday I attended Harthill Carnival, on the Derbyshire/South Yorkshire border, as a stationary engine exhibitor and walking around noticed a few implement's on show plus some tractors that may be of interest. A nice sunny day and well attended as usual, the second year that I have exhibited there and both times the weather has been warm and dry, must be my influence! Pete. Anyway, a few pics!

    Hello All, New here and wanted to say Hi from beautiful Yale, Mi. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge regarding the clutch <I think it's the clutch> on the WH C-161? Just got it yesterday and it runs and drives great and the mower deck seems to spin up just fine but as soon as it hits more than about 3 or 4 larges blades of grass the belt and deck slow right down to about nothing in rpm. As soon as clear from the grass and I re-engage it it spins up again but again the same process in the grass? I've looked at what I think is the clutch and nothing obvious pops at me except that the pin I see that goes thru the end of the <what I think is the clutch hub> hub is too long for the opening by the bearing I see just inside it? I was thinking that perhaps I should either replace it with an original if available of redrill this one closer too the place it mounts? I'm just spit-balling here because it's new to me... I've included a couple of pics of my new <older> WH... Thanks for taking a read of this, behoof

    Turning garden tractors into trains does seem to be a strange obsession all round the world... This one was spotted at Tractorfest in 2013, somewhere under the bodywork is a Wheel Horse! Nice score with the 3 point

    I thought red mist only happens when your racing! Nope Doug, the paint will stay on.. It's not a Westwood I'm not going to answer that Andrew as everything I come up with is rather crude... I used to work on the railway you see, some parts of the training stay with you forever Well, I did try to get a photo of all the finished steering in place, but my lens isn't that wide.. So have a photo of the new steering box, it looks far neater than the old box. Buried behind the column is the relocated expansion bottle... Not the ideal place to get a funnel into but it's the only place it can fit.. You can also just about see part of the crankcase breather, yes it's the bit held down with the zip tie. Getting a bit more pressure to the front brakes turned out to be quite easy in the end. Rather than raise the whole master cylinder as I have previously mentioned I just raised one end.. The front brakes won't lock up but they will certainly help with slowing down which is just how I want it. So, with WN steering and stopping I thought it was time to make a start on the electrical side of things,,, I needed somewhere to put the starter button and warning lights and maybe the choke.. And I also needed a new dash plate.... I think this panel came from a WH 314-8 I bought for parts years ago.. That fills a hole I just need to work out where to put the lights and starter button... That's something for tomorrow..

    If your unable to get the needle and seat sealing properly, the Briggs part # for the carburetor kit is 291691, and they are still available from Briggs, and aftermarket. Most of the modern kits don't have all of the proper parts for these old carburetors. However, the needle and seats they supply usually work ok, although they require bending a tab down on the float, because the needle in the kits is usually taller than oe. The main body gasket in the modern kits work well, although the venturi gasket supplied in them is not the correct one for our carburetors, but most the time, you don't have to replace that gasket.     I won't disagree with checking the Deck Drive Belt Tension, but also still check PTO Clutch pressure adjustment. Follow these instructions extracted from the Operator's Manual to adjust it and the Brake Pad pressure- Hope this helps and welcome. Regards

    That pin shouldn't be the problem. As said above, is the deck drive belt tight enough? I tighten up till I can just squeeze the bottom runs together. Between deck pulley and mule.

    silly question your belt is tight isnt it you tighten it by ajusting the black nob at the front end of tractor ??

    With a car as low as a mini, I'm surprised there were not lorry accidents all over M'Way. BTW, they use the word "fit" in several instances, would that mean she had a really nice "Boot and Bonnet"? The Glouchestershire Echo has a video from the scene of the accident,The video showed a woman holding a Rampant Rabbit-style sex toy and doing up her trousers, oh my!     Yellow Mower Challenge!

    Nothing major as far as progress really, but have continued working on the Grass Catcher for now. Completely dismantled it to it's component parts which are not that substantial in strength. The canvas edges were reinforced with wire and secured under a folded edge around the base panel. The edges carefully prised opened up to free the canvas so I could start to unpick the seams with a 'Stitch Ripper' tool. Canvas has arrived and is a perfect match in weight and colour, and have enough material to make 2 in case I screw up- As was shown in previous pics, the front Rod Tangs on each end were in a bad way, so I searched around for some new rod to replace it. Found some at my local 'Drill-Service' stockist, 2metres of original PS Stubbs 1/4" diameter Silver Steel. Got a discount too, as it had a slight bend. The galvanised base panel had a few dents which I tapped out ok after a good clean with a scourer and came up real good with very little rusting- I've cut the new canvas by using the original as a pattern ready for sewing up, but have now had to order a Sewing Awl to make it easier for my hands/joints. If all goes well, I should have this part finished in just over a week. Hoping the engine parts will be here by then.
