A few old machines of interest, mainly plant at a small local show. -
4 pointsWent to Shrewsbury Steam Rally today, the show in itself was great however its the last time I will ever attend due to the last 2 miles taking as long as the first 65 miles due to the organisers only opening one of the entrances to the show to the public and causing a two hour tail back. (this is the 3rd time Ive experienced this ) and then having to que for another half hour on top just for them to take my money! I even witnessed an ambulance with its siren on getting caught up in the jam. Any way heres a few photos of items that caught my eye, like I said a great show once you got in. Particuarly loved the moggie van, its claimed to be the oldest RHD one, it was really nice to see one preserved like this in original condition.

3 pointsThanks guys... I do have a video of my son riding it...we been holding off posting it because we are still trying different sprocket ratios and have a new clutch on order and we think we can get it better than it is. It goes forward when you hit the gas but it's not going to break any land speed records lol. Actually it's pretty much what we had expected...something just under 20 mph, maybe 16 or 17 mph. That's not bad considering most O&R Tom Thumbs only run about 10 mph. Might be able to find another couple mile an hour by tweaking the ratios...but 1HP is still 1HP and there's just so much your going to get out of that engine. It also doesn't help that he's 6'3" and 180 lbs. If you put an 80 lb kid on this thing I think it would easily run 20 mph. We only had time for one quick test ride and he had to hop a flight back to school. I'll send the bike out to him and he can fool around with it some more in his spare time. Overall I would call it a success and we had some fun working on it. He's already planning a scratch built bike with more HP for the next project. I will post an update with the new clutch and sprocket ratios installed.

Wheelhorse Raider 10 or 12 ?
S1g and one other reacted to meadowfield for a post in a topic
12hp makes it a raider 12 now.... That's why bendy went from a 10 to a 16, curves and power in all the right places now -
2 pointsAs far as I know Raiders were never fitted with a Kohler Magnum engine from the factory, so I'd say it's a Raider 10 with a good upgrade.. The Magnum 12's are good strong engines

Just arrived home with this after a 400mile round trip. Decided to miss out Aberdeen on the way home, it was a big mistake. Road was very narrow and twisty and was nightmare with the length of the combined load (pickup being 16 ft and then the trailer another 14ft) the 14% gradients didn't help, but the view was good. -

1 pointVisiting a customer at work today and got chatting about different things like you do and we got talking about old garden tractors and stuff at which point he say "come with me young man I've got some thing that you might be interested in taking on" so off we pop to and old barn and he shows me this a converted (I think) bmb plowmate says he got it from a big old house years ago in a dispersal sale. He said I could take it on on one condition I didn't weigh it in as he wants to downsize his farm. Few more pics

Wheelhorse Raider 10 or 12 ?
sten reacted to Anglo Traction for a post in a topic
There were differences even within the Raider 10 range, i.e. 3 or 6 speed. The Lausen Techy Engine spec also differed with Tranny type. Raiders were marketed in U.S. from late 68- 72. They stopped using Tecumseh in 1971, so your Tractor will possibly have lights fitted as standard?. In 1972 they were an Option. Magnum Engines were not used in WH until 86 after Toro got their hands on them and ceased using so many Briggs n Strattons. So if your 10hp decals have not fallen off, you can call it a *Re-powered Raider 10 (*a term applied in the U.S). Put another set of decals on and it's your discretion . -

1 pointThis old mower, Briggs 4-1/2 hp, does a great job. Self-propelled, high rpm's you'll run to keep up.

JCB Beaver II Hydraulic power pack.
Anglo Traction reacted to S1g for a post in a topic
Yesterday I masked up the engine so I could spray up the hydraulic tank. The load lever has a little ball on the end that nearly allways get knocked off, when I checked with JCB they wanted a stupid amount for a new one, however I spotted one on ebay for a fiver that was identical apart being tapped to M8, so I simply drilled it out to 1/2" and bonded it in place. All I need to do now is to sort out the engine support bar then build up the hydraulics which Ive got most of the missing parts on a scrap machine to help keep the costs down. -
1 pointFor the black on the exhaust, Ian. Try that BBQ spray paint. Very high temp' resistant. That what I've used on the Black Horses engine and exhaust.

Kettle is allus on.... Cheers Paul Part of it, I'm 2 miles out of the closest village, not too dissimilar drive to Ian's old place A few acres to play with Chris Cheers Norm, might be a stopover point for you at next years round up.... Adds another 25 miles on, not that bad. Worth it for the tranquility! Hehe, that's an LTE router, stick a SIM card in and get mobile internet. Had to do bit of doing around to find a point where we might get signal.... Well.... It's a 2 mile long private road.... -
