Nope, not a "making something on a lathe" thread, but a "using the best bits from two lathes" sort of thing My 80+ year old Southbend lathe has served me well for many a year and all sorts of things have been made on it, but lately it has been suffering with belt slip problems and as you can see from the photo the bench it is on is starting to bend! My other lathe is/was a TW Monoturn which to put it politely is very worn! The base is good (apart from a crack in it) and the motor is very strong.. The rest is scrap really! Strip down of the Southbend to make it lighter to move about.. A chance to give it a good clean as well.. The TW Monoturn soon looked like this.. And eventually it was reduced to a pile of parts. Rather than use the lathe base/tray legs I will be using just the tray. The bench will be strengthened a huge amount to take the extra weight of the tray and bigger motor. This is only a mock-up so the big bits of box will go and the tray mounted level on the bench once I have cut a hole for the drain bit on the tray which is lower than the rest of the tray.. The lathe and tray look good together, a good time worn match

hi all, as you know I got a FE35 Ferguson, but at the sametime I couldn't resist the Westwood! it was used as a bowling green first cut mower, it cam with spare belts and all the attachments. its a great runner with a new re-built gearbox, I also took the original gearbox as a spare for parts. the engine isn't the original, it looks like a 16HP Briggs but im not sure haven't had time to really look at it, so will have a better look soon! This is it loaded up on the trailer, as soon as I got it up there it ran out of petrol!

In my experience (probably way behind most of you) When I'm convinced it's all there and its just fuel - or lack of. I just put a teaspoon in through the plug hole. It usually make it fire first stroke and then they tnd to draw enough fuel through to run. It it runs for a second or so, it at least satisfies me that the timing, valves and spark are OK...

what exactly made the hole in the middle? and that's a expensive chip! Regards Joe

I was trying to find out what it was for ages thought it was Merry Tiller but couldn't find any info on the model. It was a beast of a thing. Just found this now.

I don't have photo to post but I believe it may be a Merry Tiller, possibly a twin six. If I find more info I shall post again.

Slow progress, what with Xmas and all that. We got distracted with the centre support column and decided it would make a good drill stand/bench grinder stand/ power point.
