I've been working on a neighbours Lawnflite ride on. I sold them it about 6-7 years ago, in good running order, when I got my Wheel Horse C-125. Two years ago it wanted a new battery and was traveling at a snails pace. Since then it had been left outside with a cover thrown over it. On examination of the drive pulleys etc, I found, though not seized, everything rather stiff in operation. This had caused the drive belt to the gearbox to come off the tension pulley. No wonder it was moving at a snails pace. Stripped it all down and gave it a good clean up. Now working as it should. Next I turned my attention to the engine. 8hp B&S. Battery on and the engine spun like a good 'un. Checked the oil and a good job I did. Nothing on the dipstick. I drained about two cup fulls of very black liquid out and filled with fresh oil. Petrol in and lets see if it will run. After a bit of cranking to get fuel through it fired up and ran fine. Back on the ground and try the clutch and gears. All working ok and then, the throttle cable snapped. I've been told they are now obsolete, so now the hunt is on.

    Mister Mad Mower

    Buma Boring Bar

Been busy restoring the " BUMA" , got it striped and rebuilt with a new coat of paint ( Brush on machine enamel ) to keep it good for another 50 years ! . This turned out to all origonal , never been apart .I know this due to the knurled adjuster on the top having a grub screw to hold the centering shaft . The grub screw had a plug over it and the knurling had been done last to hide it all ? . I had to drill the plug out so as to be able to remove the grub screw and so split the gearnbox cases . I have left the hole so i can easily take it apart for greasing etc in the future . I found the grub screw after i noticed a scribed line on the front face of the knurled adjuster , pointing in line with what looked like a keyway down inside so i drilled down and found a cavity , with the grub screw 2 or 3mm below .

    AXLE / GEARBOX ASSEMBLY.

I have managed to dig out the relevant 600 series information and you will see that the 668 is listed with no sign of the right angle box which supports my original theory that it was an "add on". Peerless made a bewildering assortment of right angle drives so it may be that with a bit more scrubbing your box may reveal an id plate of its own. If it does I may have the parts break down for it. Going back to the variations within the 600 series family the difference between the individual variants is often just the axle lengths or the type of keyway on the axles. https://www.dropbox.com/s/t3zrvz6q4ochd96/Peerless 600 series transmissions0001.pdf?dl=0

It clearly remembers you Norm!. It broke it's cable so it didn't have to go back. That Oil you got out of it was probably what's left of the Oil you put in several years ago.

    Mower Deck refurbishment

Thanks Ian, Well, I don't know how I survived without a press of some kind in the Workshop. Got this far yesterday- One on the right need the larger curve finishingThis one just needs a few tweaks Biggest challenge is putting the gentle radius' in and so have to improvise using what is available!. I used various Rod sizes, an old Deck Wheel and I also nicked one off the ATCO to put the bigger curve in .....needs must..... - Quite enjoyable doing this bit with the right tool(s) .
