Thanks Iain, glad you like the extra "silliness" in the vid... I wasn't sure how people would take to it.. The full size Nigel spends most of he's time sitting down, if the small bloke had a chair nothing would ever get done Before the engine could go back in there was a slight frame mod to do.. As the shock mounts had been moved up.. The strengthening bar between them also got moved up.. Engine in, thanks for your help today Rob should you be reading this. I just need to finish sorting out the rat's nest of a wiring loom! Yesterday all the front end parts had a session with some rattle cans. A spring looking good in black.. Well, it did look good until I noticed how much I had missed on the other side.. Spring can be a right pain to paint! The front end bolted back on.. The good thing with painting everything satin black is I can just spray over any pain chips without having to mask anything up

A bit of an update. I've been unable to locate a replacement condenser, it being one side of the points and to all reports, obsolete. So today a nice new electronic coil arrived. Also a new air filter to replace the dust that was the original. New coil soon fitted and tried and very healthy spark from the plug. So next everything was put back together. Then the throttle cable decided to let me know it was practically seized. Off with that and after several applications of 3in1 oil and pulling back and forth, it freed to an acceptable level of movement. Right! It was now time to see if it would run. To start with, I just squirted some petrol into the carb and gave the pull cord a few jerks. This resulted in a couple of coughs from the exhaust. Promising! Some petrol into the tank and lets try again after another dose down the carb. It fired and ran. Briefly! Tried again with same procedure and got same result. It wouldn't take any notice of the throttle position. Choke shut and opened ok. Bit of head scratching, sitting and thinking. Staring at the bench. Hang on! What's this? In the box that had held all the bit's and bob's, was a small rod and light spring. The one that connects throttle butterfly to lever. So now all I have to do is remember/workout just how it fits. I jest not.

Legged pullers that hook under the flywheel are a strict NO, NO. You can end up with a split flywheel or worse still a cracked one that flies apart later. Make what you need when you need it - will always come in useful!

I remember going out as an RAC patrolman to an HC one evening in the late 70's on the A1, burning oil, running like a pig on three cylinders. Two elderly ladies in the car heading home somewhere up north, RAC rescue, not recovery membership. Engine had a holed piston, I pulled the rocker cover, rockers and pushrods on the duff cylinder, topped the oil up and away they went, on three cylinders, no smoke, running as sweet as a nut, try that on a modern engine! I seem to remember they also used to burn through the "hot spot" between the manifolds, resulting in an early example of E.G.R.

I was going to say the clutch might be stuck but yours is out, so easy to check. The Vivas we had seemed to suffer from this, I was dragged a few miles round the lanes with my foot holding the clutch pedal down and the engine turning till eventually it let go.

Most the green bits are now............. green?

Gradually making a bit more progress with the attachments........ Most the green bit are now painted and have started on the red/orange parts. I forgot to take the 'sample' to match the colour..... Ooops! However, I took a gamble and chose what I thought was a close match......... Not a bad guess, eh?

Thankyou for your kind offer of help, after reading your post the other day I have already put things in hand with them. Will have to see how it goes as all insurance company's are loading the premium.
