  1. It's all back together now ready for the next grass cutting session. Note to self. Take note of the order things come apart. Then you won't have to take things apart again to fit other bits.
  2. Not at all, Paul. Depending how you read it Paul, you could have been referring to someone as a has been. Me!
  3. Talking to a farmer t'other day who had one. Broke the front axle on it somehow. He's had a Disco for the last 5 yrs. Another friend is a Jeep fan. Loves 'em.
  4. Possibly. May be better if the brushes were change for rubber flaps.
  5. Is that, as has been said, or as has been said?
  6. Well done Richard. Another lives to mow again.
  7. Had an afternoon familiarising myself with the new lathe. Here's the result. Skimmed up the inserts for the brush spindle and turned a couple of sleeves. Finished insert on left. Sleeve ready for fitting on right. The sleeves were heat shrunk on the inserts. This was done by putting the inserts in the freezer and heating the sleeves on a camping stove. Complete assembly was then put in the lathe and the sleeve machined down to fit the bearing. And they do. Now all I've got to do is put everything back together and see if it will work. For reference for anyone going to do this mod, the bearings are 35mm od x 17mm id x 12mm. Cost me £6 the pair.
  8. I use EP90 cos I've got a big drum of it.
  9. Well done Ian. Good to see the machines working.
  10. Last year I got a Wheel Horse lawn sweeper. Not that I've got a big lawn, but I cut the grass on the village green. That's number 3 grandson, not me. While doing a neighbour a favour by cutting, then sweeping, her very large back lawn/field, one of the brush spindle bearings collapsed. On stripping things down, I found the other bearing not in the best of health either. I knew that getting OE bearings could pose problems, I decided to modify to metric bearings. The difference in the outside diameters of the OE bearings was 2 thou. Two metric bearings were procured with 35mm o/d. These tapped nicely in to place. The inside diam is greater than the brush spindles end inserts. You can see where the worn bearings have scored the inserts. The plan is to turn up two sleeves, that will be heat shrunk onto the inserts, then turned down to suit the metric bearings I/d.
  11. 2.25 petrol, Nigel? You can get a performance kit for that.
  12. Like it. You could put a winch on the front.
  13. When I was serving my time, we had a couple of Cincinnaties like that. Good machines.
  14. Lucky man. Can you make and fit some kind of guard to stop grass building up by the exhaust manifold?
  15. Take your own portaloo Chris? Thanks for the photo's lads.
  16. Could that be something to do with the pub next door, Mark?
  17. Just seen the time I posted that. Should have said today as well.
  18. Errr! I mean 3 and 4 jaw chucks. It is now in place in the workshop. Pity I couldn't have the milling machine that was with it.
  19. This is arriving tomorrow. Atlas 10. 2 and 3 jaw chucks, face plate and a milling attachment. There's also some more bits and pieces. Not sure what till it arrives. These come with it as well.
